26.4 jaffa! Leaps from a length and takes the glove through to Carey! Or does it...? Marais Erasmus and Crawley are unmoved, Australia perplexed. Cummins reviews, and this is going to be overturned. Clearly brushed the thumb on the bottom hand, Chris Gaffaney doesn't take long to overturn the decision. Boland has taken some unaccustomed punishment but nips in on the brink of lunch to give Australia a third wicket and some respite, as they walk off following their first skirmish with Bazball! 124/3
3.4 caught behind! That's why you dangle it wider to Duckett! Back of a length, angled across the left-hander, he tries to cut again, gets a thin edge and it barely carries to Carey as he moves well coming forward to take a low catch 22/1

17.6 skidding on, Pope is struck on the knee roll... Ahsan Raza shakes his head but Australia review. Stuck on the crease, playing across the line, this looks very tight. Did it pitch in line? Yes, and it's three reds for Pope! Brilliant review and Australia have their second of the morning. There was just enough doubt for the umpire, but none whatsoever for Hawk-Eye. Lyon on the board for the series 92/2

37.2 bowled him! Extraordinary! Off the thigh pad! Shorter length, some extra spin and bounce, it hits the thigh pad as he shoulder's arms late, it bounces high up in the air, everyone lost sight of it, it came down and landed on the back of Brook's leg and bounced onto the stumps! Brook didn't think to look up and knock it away with his bat or body! 175/4
38.4 Given caught behind! Australia jubilant. Stokes isn't sure he's hit it. He checks with Root and decides to review. Fuller length but not a half volley, he tries to drive on the up against the angle and seems to get a little scratch through to Carey. Ultraedge shows a bit spike! England lose the review and their captain. 176/5
61.4 stumped! Bairstow runs past one! Beautifully bowled. Bairstow went too early, 57mph, good length with some drop, Bairstow goes through with the stroke despite being nowhere near the pitch, tries to whip square and it goes through the gate, easy stumping for Carey. 297/6
65.5 another stumping! Another wild premeditated shot. He skipped down early trying to go over long on, completely done in flight, nowhere near the pitch, he goes through with the shot, it spins and bounces past the edge, Carey completes a very easy stumping 323/7

70.4 hits a length, hits off stump! Broad is left pirouetting on the spot, looking down the fairway to see where his tee shot had ended up... Maybe he was expecting something shorter, but Green kept the ball up and pinged the bails. England still swinging, but eight down now 350/8

10.1 chopped on! Broad gets Warner again. Edgbaston erupts! Wide tempter, not quite a half volley, Warner throws his hands at a full blooded drive with no footwork and drags a thick inside edge back onto the stumps. Warner throws his head back in disbelief. 29/1

112.4 Bowled him!!! Robinson yorks Khawaja now, but it's more a case of Khawaja yorking himself. Looks to step out and break out of the stranglehold of the front-of-the-wicket umbrella field, makes room to drive inside-out, and he ends up far too close to the pitch of the ball. His off stump is ripped out, and a terrific, terrific innings has finally come to an end 372/7
10.2 nicked him off! The outswinger works! Broad forecast it! Bairstow takes a one hander low to his right. Full outswinger wide of off, some significant shape, Labuschagne has no need to play, he pokes at it and nicks it low to Bairstow's right and he takes a superb one hander low infront of Root's left ankle 29/2
26.6 appeal for lbw as Smith goes back to defend one that nips back in, and Erasmus thinks for a long time and raises his finger! Seemed like height could have been an issue, maybe? Smith has reviewed... Back and across to defend and it nips in to strike him on the flap of the front pad, juuust in line with off stump, and ball-tracking says it's hitting the top of the stumps, and it's not just umpire's call. Stokes is delighted, as is all of England. Massive moment 67/3
45.3 chips a catch to midwicket! Stokes' belief in Moeen pays off. Horror shot from Head. He skipped down the track to loft again but wasn't quite there and just chipped it meekly off the inside half of the bat to midwicket. Simple catch for Crawley. The crowd is alive again 148/4

67.1 bowled him with a beauty! Absolute cracker. Moeen tossed up, drifted away a touch, pitching into the footmarks, Green tries to drive against the turn, it rips viciously out of the footmark through the big gate and hits the top of middle. Moeen breaks through again! 220/5
98.4 sneaks one through, pings the bails! Anderson is back in the contest with the first wicket of this, his tenth Ashes series! Precision engineering from the old technician, and England have finally broken this sixth-wicket stand. On a length, wobble-seam delivery and it nips back inside the defensive push to rattle the stumps 338/6
116.1 and that's that. Cummins keeps taking on the hook, and this time he's not in control of it. Robinson goes short again, and this one probably skids onto Cummins quicker and lower than he expected, cramping him for room. Ends up hitting it with his bat face pointing up, and deep square leg runs in off the rope to take a straightforward catch 386/10
114.3 now he middes the pull, and he picks out the man at deep square leg. Short outside off, and he absolutely smashed that, but straight to Duckett, reaching him at knee height 377/8
115.3 got him, straight to silly point. Excellent bouncer, getting up to shoulder height, and the hopping, fending Boland can only pop it gently to the waiting Pope 378/9

9.1 another wicket, Boland strikes now.! Terrific delivery, angling into the fourth-stup channel and straightening from that typical Boland length, bringing Crawley forward to defend. Thin edge through to Carey, and Australia are all over England. Crawley walks off shaking his head; he seems to be suggesting the light isn't good enough for play to continue 27/2
8.4 got him, what an incredible gully fielder Cameron Green is! Length ball in the corridor, straightens on Duckett, and he offers a bit of a loose response, hanging his bat out, looking for a lazy off-side push. Thick edge, and Green dives low to his left to grab it. Just as in the case of his second-innings catch of Shubman Gill last week, the umpires send it upstairs, but this time it's very clear that Green has wrapped his fingers nicely around the ball by the time his hand hits the turf 27/1

16.6 ohmygosh, that's a moment of pure talismanic force from Cummins! Route-one cricket, and when it's executed just right, it's absolutely unplayable. Fast, inswinging yorker that absolutely howitzers through Pope's desperate attempt to jam his bat down, and leaves his stumps in an absolute mess. What a moment in this mad, mad morning. We'll have to check replays to see if this is conventional swinfg or reverse. Oh, it's a proper, old-fashioned inswinger 77/3
25.1 oh my, Root has run past one! He's Bazballed himself in the foot! Appreciable spin for Lyon, it turns inside the bat with Root looking to heave over the leg side, leaving Carey with simple stumping. Silence around the ground, as England's talisman throws back his head and walks from the field. Lyon has his first of the day - and a third stumping for the match. Again, on paper, it's total madness, but we're probably beyond that discussion 129/4
33.4 dragged to midwicket, Lyon strikes again! Australia have stifled Brook for the last few overs and it has succeeded, looking to manufacture a sweep and picking out the diving Labuschagne for a good, low catch. Brook departs just shy of a half-century, and again the game tilts back towards Australia 150/5
48.2 got him, that's a lovely delivery and a bit of leaden footwork from Stokes. Fullish, angling into the stumps and nipping in further, and Stokes plays this from the crease, a straight-bat defensive push down the wrong line. He's reviewed it, but he's not very confident at all. Struck on the knee roll, in line with middle stump, and ball-tracking returns an umpire's call verdict at the stumps, with the ball shown to be clipping the top of leg stump. England are effectively 217 for 7 210/7
45.3 ooooh, that looks close, and Marais Erasmus has a loooong think before raising his finger. Bairstow has reviewed it. Reverse-sweeps from a ball pitching in line with the stumps, but is it turning down the leg side, maybe? Nope. It's pitching just inside the line of leg stump, and it's only turned enough from there to straighten and hit the inside half of leg stump, according to ball-tracking. England are six down 196/6
54.4 short and gloved behind! Moeen swipes at a pull and up goes the finger! Hazlewood gets amongst 'em with a well-directed bumper, climbing through above the cross-batted shot and there's a tickle to Carey. Australia working their way through this England line-up 229/8
61.5 picks out long-on! Robinson takes on Green but ends up under-clubbing his shot by some distance. Got to get some height on it if you're going to clear the tallest man on the pitch. Well held above his head, and Lyon has a fourth 256/9

66.2 short and steered to Carey's left, superbly swallowed by the keeper! Cummins finishes it himself, Anderson fending an outside edge that is taken at full stretch. All of which means Australia will need 281 to win (one run fewer than the target in 2005) 273/10

71.6 Slower one keeps low, Khawaja chops on! Raucous roar at Edgbaston. Three-finger legcutter on a length outside off, Khawaja went across and tried to block it towards cover. The 72mph ball deceived him, it took the inside edge and rattled the stumps. Crawley ran in from cover, fielders swarmed at Stokes who was able to only walk in and continue like one does towards their mark 209/7
17.4 and out of nowhere, Robinson produces a ball of subtle, venomous beauty! Scrambled seam, pitches on a good length in the corridor, and straightens juuust a touch. Warner is a touch late getting forward to defend, on this occasion, and is landing on his heel when the ball kisses his outside edge through to Bairstow 61/1
21.3 gottim, fishing outside off! Very similar to the first innings, the nip away does the job and Broad pockets Marnus once again! There's a moment's pause, as the umpires come together, but the front foot is okay. Labuschagne shakes his head, sucked into playing away from his body. Edgbaston comes alive, and England are alive 78/2
25.3 GONE, Broad nicks him off! Smith's feet are stuck, the bat groping out in front as the ball seams and kisses the edge. Broad has blasted out another as the shadows lengthen at Edgbaston! England are tearing around, the crowd go ballistic as the ball nestles in Bairstow's gloves and he starts laying into an imaginary punchbag. No doubt about this one, a huge moment in the chase 89/3
37.2 Broad nicks off Boland! Bluffed with the short-ball field. Full ball outside off at 83mph. Boland, like Steven Smith, goes for the cover drive. Gets a thin edge, regulation catch for Bairstow. Broad's off runnin', fielders converge in celebration. The noise level goes up from the crowd 121/4

44.5 gottim, snaffled at slip! Moeen Munir Ali! What a moment. Head landed a couple of body blows but Moeen puts him flat on the canvas with a superb delivery that pitches on a length and rips away, jams the shoulder of the bat and loops to Root at slip. Started with a helping of filth and then the jaffa. That will make the pain of his spinning finger feel worth it 143/5

63.4 Chopped on! Robinson has brought Edgbaston back to life! He used the crease well, got it on a length from wide and Green tried to steer it towards third. It angled in close which meant Green had little to no room to work with, Inside edge took the ball onto the stumps. 192/6
80.3 Root finally latches onto a tough caught-and-bowled chance, he fumbled but cupped his hands and the ball went down slowly. So he had time to adjust and take it on the turn. Stokes' decision not to take the new ball works! The event was similar to the one from the last chance. Carey charged, got to the pitch, and tried to pump it down the ground. It went hard, towards Root's head. He bent, the ball went low after taking the palms. But it went towards the chest, and Root pouched it 227/8
