9:22pm And...breathe. A nail-biting encounter that ultimately swayed in the Paarl Royals' direction. We hope you enjoyed our coverage and hope to have your company for all the franchise T20 league action lined up tomorrow. Until then, this is goodbye from Vairavan and myself. Take care, folks!

Rahul: "I'm in India and it is 12:20 am here. Following this thrilling finish. "

Rubin Hermann, Player of the Match: Very nice to get a chance in the SA20 - something every local cricketer works towards. Very happy to be here and to be contributing to the team. We complement each other nicely. We are both naturally aggressive, we know we can play off each other. It works quite nicely when we bat together. We have gelled so good as a squad. We have eleven in the field but all 16 of us have contributed massively to each win. Our closeness together shows in the field, very special to be a part of it. You have such calm heads like David Miller, then people like Joe Root and Dinesh, for him to come to South Africa, it is just awesome. Calm heads to keep you calm and they back you always.

David Miller, Paarl Royals captain: (On the crowd) Phenomenal. Fantastic support from the local fans and thank you very much to everyone for coming out. We wouldn't have done well without you, the local fans do really get behind us and it is a great vibe. (On winning five out of five games at home) First time, 5/5 at home. Guys have been spectacular, sticking to the plans. (On his injury) My right groin is a little tight. 35 now (smiles), but just a little tweak there. Tried to get off before it could get any worse. It is just so good to see the youngsters (like Hermann and Pretorius) coming through and showing their skill. Really lucky to have them, even more so now. Nice to see them getting stuck in and tear teams apart. (On Maphaka) The left-armer with a lot of pace, missed out in the last game, coming back in and bowling with swing…really nice to see all the guys pulling together in the right direction. (On Fortuin) It is a phenomenal performance from him. He loves the new ball. He is just so skillful, varying his pace and he is really clever with the ball. Great to have him as a part of this camp and nothing changes with him, we know what we are going to get. We have a lot of guys in the team that can adapt accordingly. We went up to the Highveld, we won there. The guys have adapted really well and really confident with where the squad is at.

Keshav Maharaj, Durban's Super Giants captain: (On emotions spilling over in the last over) Probably a decision not going our way, everyone makes mistakes. Full credit to our boys, really proud of them, they showed character until the end. Kane and Marcus showed their class and their quality, put a decent total on. We bowled well as a unit - tough to pinpoint where it went wrong. Fielded pretty well too. Full credit to the (Royals) batters for the way they batted. (On the score) I still felt like we were in the game. When we got a few wickets, we started to believe a little more. When the wind started pumping, the total does feel a little small but I feel we had a competitive total. There is a lot of pride to play for and we are not going to go down without a fight.

8:57pm Phew. What a game. The archetypal low-scoring thriller where almost every ball seemed like an event. When Karthik smashed Smuts for six in the 19th over, it seemed the Royals had the win sewn up. But then he fell, and Galiem could hardly lay bat to ball. Until...he got one right out of the middle, just when his team needed it.

Among all of that, there was the drama of the wide that was given but perhaps shouldn't have been. DSG tried everything, from reviewing it for a caught-behind to remonstrating with the umpire but that provision, of reviewing wides in the SA20, just does not exist. On another day, when the rub of the green might have gone their way, they might have kept their campaign alive. Tonight, though, it was not to be.

Prior to that drama, Hermann and Pretorius had laid the foundation for the hosts. Neither could finish the job but both of them ensured the Royals had enough wickets in the shed to close out the game. DSG's spinners were tidy and tried turning the screw at different points. But in the end, they just ran out of runs.

Mulder to Galiem, SIX, oh, Dayyaan Galiem! Oh my word, what a shot to produce under such immense pressure! The streak lives on and the Royals go 5-0 at home this season in an absolute nail-biter! On the shorter side again and this is a touch outside off, which gives Galiem the swinging room he wants. He holds his shape much better and then clatters it clean over deep mid wicket. The crowd finds its voice again after being hushed into silence earlier in the over, and they are having a proper party in the stands. The Super Giants, on the other hand, are crestfallen, and they know that they can no longer make the playoffs. The 2024 finalists, who wanted to go one better this year, are now out!

3 off 2. There is a hush around the ground

Mulder to Galiem, no run, slower delivery dug into the track on middle and leg. Galiem swings like a rusty gate and misses the ball again. Surely he should just be taking singles? Or getting van Buuren back on strike?

3 off 3. DSG feeling a sense of injustice but nothing they can do about it

19.4
1w
Mulder to Galiem, 1 wide, full and wide outside off. Seems to sneak just outside the tramlines and the umpire calls it a wide after Galiem swishes at it and misses. de Kock is miffed, as is Maharaj and DSG have reviewed this for a caught-behind because they cannot review wides in the SA20. Final-over drama in Paarl. There is no bat involved. Of course there isn't. And the replay does indicate that the ball was a shade inside the tramlines. But can this decision be overturned? No, it cannot. The wide remains, and DSG are not best pleased!

4 off 3. Maharaj is having a chat with Mulder. This over has gone well so far

19.3
1
Mulder to Van Buuren, 1 run, follows the batter outside leg with a fullish ball. van Buuren stabs at it and chips it on the bounce to extra cover. The fielder was right on the circle. Had he been in tight, it might have been a chance

5 off 4. Who's winning this? Tension in both camps

19.2
1
Mulder to Galiem, 1 run, hard length on middle and leg. Cuts back in with the angle and cramps the batter all ends up. Galiem splices his pull towards mid wicket and picks up a single

Mulder to Galiem, no run, banged into the track just outside off. Zips off the surface and the ball flies past Galiem's ungainly swipe across the line

Six runs needed off the final over. Just a run-a-ball, but strange things happen in the last over. Who is going to bowl? Surely it will be Mulder? Looks like it is Mulder. A couple of dots early in the over will really make things tricky for the chasing side

END OF OVER:

Smuts to Galiem, 1 run, full just outside off. Galiem gets onto the front foot and pushes it towards sweeper cover. Gets off the mark and also keeps strike

7 off 7 now. DSG would love another dot

Smuts to Galiem, no run, low full toss outside off. Galiem reaches out for it and drives it straight to extra cover

Galiem joins van Buuren

Smuts to Karthik, OUT, nicked and gone! Karthik bites the dust, and there is another twist to this tale! Fizzed through on a length outside off. Karthik's feet are stuck to concrete and he wafts at it. The ball spins away just enough to take a feather of an edge and de Kock gobbles up the chance. Is there life left in this game still?

Smuts to Karthik, SIX, flat six, and the crowd comes to life again! A real half-tracker outside leg and for a batter of Karthik's class and experience, that is fodder. He gets inside the line and pulverizes it flat. Right into the boundary cushion, and the Royals get a vital maximum!

Smuts to Karthik, no run, into the blockhole on leg stump. Karthik jams down on it and squeezes it out to point
18.1
1
Smuts to Van Buuren, 1 run, full just outside off. van Buuren backs away and sweeps it towards deep backward square leg

14 off 12. Still Royals' game to lose, but DSG might have a sniff if they remove one (or both) of these batters. Smuts to bowl the penultimate over. Hand perhaps forced by Stoinis not being able to bowl

END OF OVER:

Mulder to Karthik, 2 runs, safe! Full just outside off. Karthik gets into position for the scoop but does not quite nail it. Spoons it over the keeper's head and has to settle for a brace

Mulder to Van Buuren, 1 run, dug into the track on middle and leg. van Buuren backs away and hacks it towards deep mid wicket
17.4

Mulder to Van Buuren, no run, fullish just outside off. Nips away against the angle and van Buuren, looking to flick it away, is beaten all ends up

Stoinis has asked the physio to come on so that he can receive some treatment. Not sure what the issue is, but that gives DSG a chance to recalibrate their plans. Mulder will complete the over

17.3
1
Stoinis to Karthik, 1 run, length just outside off. Karthik waits for it and opens his bat face to run it down to deep third
17.2

Stoinis to Karthik, no run, slanted in full on off. Karthik presses forward and stabs it towards mid wicket

Stoinis to Karthik, SIX, Karthik goes big! Half-tracker on off and Karthik climbs into it. He telegraphs this cutter and sits deep in his crease to whack it over deep mid wicket!

This is getting tight. 24 off 18. Stoinis to bowl. Karthik on strike
