4:42pm Right, that's all from us here. Fear not, the ODI leg of this tour gets going on Thursday. Meanwhile, England Women are currently defending 170 against Ireland, who have made a decent start in their chase. So long!

4:40pm Aayushman: "Funny to think the commentators feel England wouldn't have lost at all. 'Rain saves Australia again'." Ermmm...

4:37pm Right, some presentations to mark the end of the T20I series. Men's player of the summer, an award that includes the T20 World Cup, is Jos Buttler with 337 runs at 48.14.

As for this series, Liam Livingstone takes the cake with 124 runs at a strike rate of 167, along with five wickets.

"Just being a bit more involved, I suppose," says Livingstone when asked what he has enjoyed most about the last week. "I want to try and be involved as much I can be in the game.

"Any time you get an opportunity to go up and influence the game, you always enjoy that. I'll bat wherever England want me to bat, but hopefully I've shown enough to go a little bit higher."

4:18pm: Match abandoned! Sweet release for those hardy souls who have toughed it out in the stands at Emirates Old Trafford. The T20I series ends in a 1-1 draw. Rain saves Australia again...

4:08pm Roller, straight to the point: "This is totally doomed. Umbrellas up, rain sweeping through, all covers back on." Me thinks that means the 4:15pm inspection is not happening...

3:59pm Thomas: "Any news of the cut-off time for a 5-over thrash?" Yep - 5:46pm for that kind of chicanery.

3:48pm Just under 30 minutes until the pitch inspection... and it's drizzling again. The hover cover is back on.

3.35pm Afternoon everyone! So, what do we have here... oh, nothing. I do come with better news, however, courtesy of our man on the ground, Matt Roller: the pitch has been uncovered for the first time today with the temporary halt in the rain.

The only covers on at the moment are the ones on the run-ups, with the hover cover resting to the side of the pitch.

Shadow-Shell: "So, I believe we've started losing overs". That is correct - from 3:30pm.

3.30pm Righto, I'm going to set away from this excitement for a bit. Here's Vish for the first time today.

3.25pm Update: There will be a pitch inspection at 4.15pm, if no further rain.

While we wait (some more) why not have a watch of this debate: who are the best Test pace bowlers since 2000?

3.10pm Well, well. Now we have umpires heading out for a look

We have progress! Matt: "First cover has been peeled off." According to the radar we are entering a bit of a gap in the rain, although there does appear to be some more to come. Although perhaps not as heavy

3.05pm Without getting any hopes up, here's Matt: "It's looking quite a lot brighter though still seems to be raining lightly." One of the challenges will be how quickly the ground can be got ready if there is a break in the weather

Jiyah: "Just a dumb question: Why isn't Cummins captaining the Australia ODI team?" Certainly not a dumb question, it's hard to keep up! He's being rested ahead of the home summer to work on strength and conditioning.

3.00pm Here's a reminder of the ODI schedule to come. And there's some decent weather forecast for next week.

In terms of today, we start losing overs at 3.30pm.

Jaisil: "According to me, matt short is the best option for the opening slot considering his ability to construct the innings better than jake because in odis an opener needs to bat long."

Geoff Edwards: "Far from the rain and glamour of Manchester, the Voneus Village Cup final is taking place at Lords. Dumbleton and Foxton Granta locked in a good competitive match."

2.45pm Mel: "If anyone wants some T20 cricket this afternoon - the weather is better in Dublin where England Women are taking on their Irish counterparts."

2.40pm While it's tipping down, let's just throw ahead to the ODI series. We've seen the updates from England today, but there's also some interesting decisions for Australia. Not least who opens the batting with Travis Head. There's plenty of options: Jake Fraser-McGurk, Matt Short, Mitchell Marsh, Steven Smith...

Ali: "I live hardly couple of miles from the Old Trafford. It's dark and wet, and raining persistently. I don't see any cricket happening any time today."

2.25pm Ibrahim: "The England ODI squad feels so inexperienced. Where are players like Bairstow, Root, and Woakes?" England are starting to build to the 2027 World Cup. Root, though, is just being rested - he'll be firmly in the mix for the Champions Trophy. The England Test squad flying to Pakistan just a few days after the ODI series finishes.

Here's an update from Matt: "Rain has got much lighter but there's standing water all over the covers." A few moments later..."And now heavier again."

2.05pm Some news out of the England camp: Jos Buttler has been ruled out of the ODI series due to his calf injury. Harry Brook named captain. Josh Hull also out. Liam Livingstone recalled. Here's the details.

2.00pm Not that it was really needed, but toss is officially delayed - and will be for a long time

1.50pm Here's Matt from the ground: "It looks really bleak to be honest. Nobody in the party stand, a handful of people under cover in a couple of stands. Some standing water on the outfield."

1.45pm Afeef: "During the course of his brilliant innings in the last match, Livingstone also reached 400 sixes in T20 cricket. I'm glad he's getting a consistent run at no. 4, I feel that's his best batting position."

If, and it's a rather big if, we get on the park today, expect England to recall Jofra Archer and Australia Josh Hazlewood. Australia only had 11 players to pick from in the last game as that was a pre-planned one for Hazlewood to miss after his recent calf niggle. Ben Dwarshuis has now officially been added to the squad. A fair few injuries floating around for the Australian quicks.

RobP: "Hello Gnasher, lovely to have you with us. A cricket match in Manchester in September? You don't need to be John Kettley to know that that is a recipe for disaster!!!!" Forecast from tomorrow onwards is lovely, and if this was a night game it may well clear up. So a little unfortunate in this instance.

1.35pm As we await further updates, it's a good chance to catch up on yesterday's T20 Blast Finals Day where Gloucestershire finished as champions for the first. It was a performance laced with wider significance and emotion, as Alan Gardner writes.

Aayushman: "I wonder how do England fans forget that they too were saved by rain in the 2013 Ashes. Besides, Marnus Labuschagne's century at Old Trafford also loses credit as England had the chance to bowl Australia out on the 4th day too and failed to do it." Of course they weren't the first side saved by rain. And, yes, Labuschange's innings was excellent and certainly rescued the game in the time that was available.

Speaking of Marnus, a reminder that he's one of the Australia players arriving for the ODIs along with Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Starc.

1.30pm England levelled the series two days ago with a superb run chase in Cardiff, led by Liam Livingstone but also with a very eye-catching performance from Jacob Bethell which showed why he has plenty of people excited. The takedown of Adam Zampa, one of the world's best white-ball legspinners, was mighty impressive.

Redders: "Persistent rain at Old Trafford allows Australia to escape with drawn series. That'll never happen..." Yes, indeed. It may have aided them a little last year

1.20pm Hello everyone and welcome to what should be the deciding T20I from Old Trafford. I say should because the weather is threatening to spoil things. It's a pretty dank and damp day at the moment and the prospects for the game aren't fantastic. But fingers crossed we get a break. The latest start time for a five-over thrash is 5.48pm. I'm Andrew McGlashan and along with Vithushan Ehantharajah will bring you the updates and, hopefully, action.
