Harmanpreet Kaur walks across and collects the winners trophy with a huge smile on her face, and why not. The entire team now gets across and pose for the cameras. Debutant Richa Ghosh holds the trophy aloft. All smiles in the Indian camp as they stand behind the winners' hoarding. Alyssa Healy also has her camera out. Srinidhi's report is up while Sudarshanan's post-match copies will also be in soon. Thank You all for tuning in on all four days, and thanks for all the feedback. Onto the ODIs now, that get underway from December 28. Till then, this is Ashish Pant signing off on behalf of Srinidhi and Vairavan. Ciao!
Sona : "Congratulations Indian team for the historic Win"
Renjith : "Kaur two big wickets in the second innings changed the match for India "
Nishant Kashyap: "So proud of our girls. Now onto winning more overseas."
Here's the winning captain, Harmanpreet Kaur: Reward for all the hard work we have done for so many years. Credit to the team and the support staff. Reward for the hard work and patience. We just wanted to play positive cricket, and that is why we wanted to put Richa Ghosh at no.3. We did not want to go back to defensive cricket and everyone knows how Richa plays. We just wanted to stick to the basics and do the right task. Our support staff asked me to bowl and I got those two important wickets. [Taking 20 wickets] Our bowling coach is only telling the bowlers about taking wickets, not being defensive. What best we can do, what's the best we can bring to the team. I wanted to thank the BCCI for giving us the opportunity. The selectors have also shown their faith in us. The crowd has also been coming in all four days, so thanks to them as well.
Sneh Rana is the player of the match: Feels amazing, standing here and receiving this award. And a great Test win. No one was calling me a nightwatchman, because they knew I can bat. First time I was batting with Smriti [Mandhana], felt well. Didn't feel I was a nightwatchman. Have always wanted to take wickets and stand up for my team. The captain has given me a chance and I have to do well. The catch drops are a part of the game, and that doesn't dishearten me. I try and come back stronger. A Test match in India is happening after a long time, so this win is right at the top. For Indian fans also this win is huge. The players who are growing will see this win and want to play more Test cricket.
Australia captain, Alyssa Healy: What an experience to come and play Test cricket. Not easy and we found out. Two or three more Tests could have been interesting. Except for the first day, we showed a lot of fight. It's the first time we are playing red-ball cricket here, and we are learning on our feet. The girls have adjusted and performed well. Full credit to the Indian team, they just put too many runs on us. If we would have batted the first full day, we could have been in the game. Winning the toss and not putting the runs on the board and then leaking too many runs in the afternoon [cost us]. Around 300 would have been ideal. That's the beauty of the game, have to execute all four days. We have to take the confidence from the conditions here in Wankhede. The opportunity to play a practice game and this Test have helped us adjust to the conditions.
Presentation time
Kanishka: "What a win it is!! It will be remembered for years. We have often seen Indian men do this but today its all girls!! Two test wins on the trot first England now Australia. We want more of that..cheers!!"
Santhosh: "With Indian Women cricket peaking like anything over the last few years, can we also expect a women commentator in Cricinfo soon?" Srinidhi has been on the ball-by-ball commentary all through this Test Santhosh.
Sheernali SG: "Historic!!! Kudos to the team for making us proud!!!"
Jemimah Rodrigues: I think Test cricket is something I always wanted to play. Wearing the blue was the obvious dream, we did not play a lot of Test cricket then, but just wearing these whites was a dream. Nothing like getting two back to back fifties and getting two Test wins. Christmas has come early. For me, even before the domestic season started, I wanted to be consistent. That was the goal and I keep working hard. I wanted to follow my process. When you are consistent there, the results will follow. I didn't have a great series last time around. But I had a lot of good scores coming in this time around so was confident. [Bowling] They have inspired me a lot to bowl. I could have contributed a lot more, but I left it to the bowlers.
Smriti Mandhana: [Batting being tough?] Definitely it wasn't that tough. We thought it was rank turner when we saw the pitch, but if you applied yourself and showed patience, think batting wasn't that hard. Credit to all the batters. The way Deepti and Pooja got us back in the game in the first innings, that won us the game. I told Shafali that we should bat the way we batted in the first innings. Nothing too fancy, nothing too defensive, just react to the ball. That is when we bat the best. She was unfortunate she was dismissed.
Here are Renuka Singh and Pooja Vastrakar: "Very happy, first win against Australia. History has been created, very happy. [On batting] There is a lot of focus on my batting, but just wanted that my bowling doesn't come yesterday so just wanted to bat and bat.," says Vastrakar.
What did Troy Cooley tell Renuka: He just asked us to be patient and the wickets will come. The celebrations are a secret, won't reveal.
Bhargav : "This Indian team deserves this victory so much. For Years they put in efforts, got stopped at Finals sometimes, this will be great to cherish."
12.45pm Rodrigues hugs Mandhana as India have scripted a famous, famous win at the iconic Wankhede Stadium by eight wickets. The first time ever that India have beaten the No. 1 ranked Australian team in Test cricket. The Wankhede stands up and applauds the Indian team. Quite a crowd in to witness history. All smiles in the Indian camp. Harmanpreet Kaur leads the team down. Handshakes all around. What a fortnight this has been for the India women's team. A comprehensive win against England and now they have taken down the mighty Australians. The day was set-up by the Indian bowlers who wrapped up the last five Australia wickets for just 28 runs. That meant India needed 75 to win the one-off Test. They lost Shafali Verma early but Richa Ghosh and Mandhana added 51 off 88 balls to all but close the game. Once Ghosh was dismissed, Rodrigues and Mandhana took the side home with minimum of fuss.
