That will be it from us tonight. Thanks for tuning in. We will be back nice and early on Friday for the second ODI, but till then, this is me Ashish Pant signing off on behalf of Abhimanyu and Sudeep. Ciao!
Temba Bavuma, the South Africa captain: It is a good start to the series. It was a competitive score, we had to fight. Proper innings from Rickelton. The bowling was great. The conditions were in their favour. The pressure was on them. [On de Zorzi] As far as I know, he is going for a scan tomorrow. We tried to play what was in front of us. We were looking for swing and movement off the wicket. We have a nice variety. The damage was done early.
Paul Stirling, the Ireland captain: Tough defeat tonight. I think it did a couple of things which I didn't expect. It did nip around. Few disappointing things, and hope we can turn up better on Friday. When you have a side three down, we needed to take our chances. [On Hoey] I am delighted with how he went especially against a strong opposition.
Ryan Rickelton is the player of the match: When Tristan came in we were in a spot bother. We wanted to home in on our Test match skills. We score quite quickly so we knew we could catch up. It was just about getting out of that initial phase. The tail wagged nicely for us. Credit has to go to the tail. The runs at the end were invaluable.
Lizaad Williams: We obviously do a lot of analysis work. We just talked about putting in the box on the fourth stump. The wobble was more effective compared to the swing because I don't get a lot of bounce. The wobble seam was more effective. There was a bit of wind. It did give me a bit more boost.
Presentation time
10.16pm That is a clinical all-round bowling performance from South Africa as they take a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. They were led by Lizaad Williams who bowled an eight-over spell up top and sent the Ireland batters in a tizzy. He got the ball to move around and picked up three wickets early. Ottneil Baartman then got his maiden ODI wicket before Lungi Ngidi added two wickets to his tally. Eventually Ireland could only muster 132 in 31.5 overs and this will give this young South African team something to smile about after what has been a tough tour of the UAE so far.
