Abinash Das: "What makes Ashwin stand out is not only his skills with the bat and ball(which is unquestionable) but his deep understanding of the game. He is undoubtedly one of the greatest theorists of the game." He's a theorist, a practitioner, an all-round magician, isn't he? And it's been fun watching that over the past five days and the years preceding. Long may it continue. You can check out the details of his efforts today in Sidharth Monga's report. Alagappan Muthu will be back with some match analysis and there'll be lots more coming up in between Tests. Do check it out. For now, it's goodbye from us commentators, Ekanth, Monga, and S Sudarshanan, and our scorer, Chandan Duorah.

R Ashwin, POTM: No, I don't keep track of POTM awards. Every time I play in Chennai, it's an amazing feeling. I've watched a lot of Tests, int'l cricket in those stands, to do it in front of those renovated stands is great. It was an opportunity to fight, dig in deep. I've seen so many team-mates do it in the past. Was a special innings, didn't sink in till day 2. I make a living by bowling, so bowling comes first. I think like a bowler naturally but have focused my thoughts with batting. The compartmentalisation is work in progress.

Rohit Sharma, India captain: It was a great result looking what lies ahead. Playing after a while but you are in touch with the game. Need to be working as a group, had a good lead-up and got the win. (Pant) has been through some tough times, the way he has managed himself through those tough times has been superb to watch. He's done well in the IPL, the World Cup, and this is the format he loves the most. We always knew what he can do with the bat, our focus was to give him game time. He did that in the Duleep trophy and now here. We want to build our team around strong bowling options, we have to be ready to face whatever the conditions offer. Gotta give credit to the bowlers who want to take responsibility. (1/2)

Beautiful pitch, red soil always offers a lot. You have to be patient. You've gotten used to things happening every ball in India, but it wasn't the case here. We were patient to get the big runs and take wickets. (Ashwin) will come in and talk to you, he's the right man to answer what he does. He's always there for us over the years. I don't know if I speak here it'll be enough to cover what he does for the team. He looks like he's never out of the game. He played IPL, had some fun in the TNPL. He batted up the order and that helped. (2/2)

A few sponsored awards being given out, Ashwin gets another big pop. So does Jadeja. And Rishabh Pant too.

Najmul Hossain Shanto, Bangladesh captain: The positive is how Taskin, Hasan bowled in the first 2-3 hours but India batted really well after that. Seaming options was the biggest positive, we've bowled really well with the new ball but need to continue that. As a batter, I always try to contribute, I enjoy my batting. Tried to bat as long as we could today and play to our strengths. Kanpur is important. Bowlers did well, hope batters do too.

Elsewhere, India are on the cusp of a historic gold (maybe two) at Chess Olympiad as the dominant men's team goes into the final round as favourites. Here's how India came close to a first ever gold.

Rishabh Pant: 100 was special because I love playing in Chennai. After injury I wanted to play all three formats and this was my first [Test] match after coming back. Loving it every day. [Celebration] It was emotional, I wanted to score each and every match which didn't I couldn't do, but coming back to Test cricket, which is where I belong the most... I just enjoyed batting and got a little bit emotional. But at the end of the day, being in the field gives me more pleasure than anything else. I try to read the situation in my own way. When you are 30-3, you need to stitch a partnership. That's what Gill and I did. I feel, when you're batting with someone you have a great relationship outside the field, it really helps.

Mukunth: "Ash now has 750 international wickets - 522,156,72"

"Not sure if it will be kohli or rohit for PotM," quips Shreyas Ram

rajith: "last 6 wkts fallen for 40, bangladesh must work on their shot selection before next match, they tried to be aggressive but they choose the wrong balls to be "

11:18am: Gambhir's first Test as India's head coach starts with an emphatic 280-run win. It wasn't as clear cut halfway into the first day but then Ashwin happened, as is often the case in Chennai. He was made to wait on the final day. Bumrah, Siraj and Jadeja put Shakib and Shanto under pressure in the first hour but couldn't break through. But Ash Anna came in and took wickets with remarkable skill and ease. Bangladesh started cautiously but tried counterattacking as wickets fell, that just allowed India to get the seven wickets in about 50 minutes. Before you knew it, India were 1-0 up.

Pavan Kumar: "So Jadeja is stranded in 299 !! "
