Queensland 137 and 4 for 50 (Holland 3-8) trail Victoria 417 (White 104*, Maxwell 81, Harris 75, Handscomb 60, Wildermuth 3-51, George 3-92) by 230 runs
Scorecard
Cameron White scored an unbeaten hundred and Glenn Maxwell sent a message to the state selectors with 81 as Victoria dominated the second day against Queensland at the MCG. Victoria piled on 417 and a three-wicket over from spinner Jon Holland shortly before stumps put them well on the way to a possible innings win, with Queensland wobbling at 4 for 50, still 230 shy of making Victoria bat again.
Marnus Labuschagne was on 17 and Michael Neser had made 9, but the innings had started disastrously for Queensland after Joe Burns was lbw to Scott Boland for 7. Holland, who had picked up four wickets in the first innings, came on for his first over of the second innings and promptly removed Charlie Hemphrey, Sam Heazlett and Peter Forrest to begin with a triple-wicket maiden.
The day could hardly have gone any better for Victoria, who began the morning at 5 for 153 with Maxwell and White at the crease. Their partnership grew to 132 before Maxwell was caught behind off Neser, but he had done more than enough to justify his selection after controversially being left out of Victoria's Shield side last week, to the displeasure of the national selectors.
White began to run out of partners and brought up his hundred with a six, his third century of the domestic season, following on from two in the Matador Cup. Victoria were eventually bowled out for 417.
