Sayers, Richardson pin down WA on green track

South Australia 4 for 156 (Lehmann 55*, Mackin 3-55) trail Western Australia 201 (Inglis 49, Sayers 5-68, Richardson 4-55) by 45 runs
Scorecard

Chadd Sayers and Kane Richardson prospered with the Dukes ball on a green pitch before Jake Lehmann and Alex Ross helped South Australia close within sight of Western Australia's first innings on day on of the Sheffield Shield match in Adelaide.

Richardson and Sayers both gained useful movement through the air and off the pitch to confound the WA batsmen, and, in the end, the visitors were fortunate to pass 200, thanks largely to a determined effort from the wicketkeeper Josh Inglis, who made his Sheffield Shied debut.

Sayers, who spent much of the summer as 12th man for the Australian Test side, saved his best ball for Adam Voges, a nip-backer that burst clean through the defences of the Warriors captain.

Simon Mackin grabbed a pair of early wickets for WA to unsettle South Australia's reply, before Callum Ferguson was run out. Lehmann and Ross responded with a volley of aggressive strokes to eat into the deficit, but Mackin was able to stop the stand shortly before stumps were drawn.
