Wade's twin half-centuries take Tasmania home

Tasmania 226 (Wade 69, Tremain 4-45) and 4 for 144 (Wade 57*) beat Victoria 127 (Maddinson 69) and 237 (Harris 60, Handscomb 52, Bird 4-65)

Tasmania's captain and incumbent Test batsman Matthew Wade completed a superb match with the bat to guide the Tigers to a six-wicket victory over Victoria in the Sheffield Shield match at Bellerive Oval in Hobart, having grabbed the momentum on day one.

In a game that coincided with the announcement that the Victoria coach Andrew McDonald is to leave the role to become Justin Langer's assistant with Australia, Wade's half-centuries in each innings were the difference in bowler friendly conditions that reaped a mere five scores better than 50 over four days - but for rain on the third afternoon the contest would have been done with a day to spare.

Having claimed two wickets early in their fourth-innings defence, the visitors were in with a chance on the final morning, and remained hopeful when Charlie Wakim was separated from Wade with more than 50 still required. However George Bailey and Caleb Jewell hung around to ensure Wade could take his side home, further underlining why he was a part of Australia's Ashes batting line-up.
