That's that for these two teams then for this season, with Hurricanes finishing on a high. Thanks for tuning in tonight, we'll be back tomorrow with Perth Scorchers taking on Sydney Sixers. Till then, on behalf of Ekanth and Ranjith, this is me Ashish Pant signing off.

Nathan Ellis: Been very hit and miss with my batting, so good to get a few boundaries away. We stayed in the fight throughout. It was a good wicket, and the boys stayed in the middle. I asked them to put in a great performance and they put their hands up. Really good team, so disappointed we didn't go into the final four. I feel really frustrated because I know how good a team we can be. There were moments in the season that had we executed better, we could have been fighting for the trophy. [On his rib injury] I was a little sore when I was bowling, and sore when I yelled, and I did a lot of yelling. I was able to bowl so I should be fine.

10.49pm Hurricanes climb to fifth position on the points table, but that won't amount to much as they are out of the finals race. Both Hurricanes and Stars had their moments in the season but failed to make it to the final four. The 188-chase was never going to be easy. Glenn Maxwell hammered 32 off 18 but Beau Webster failed to get things going. Marcus Stoinis also scored a quick 32-ball 48 but Hurricanes bowlers held their nerves. Nathan Ellis picked two wickets and he is the player of the match.
