That brings today's action to a close. Thank you for tuning in. On behalf of Vairavan Karuppaiah and myself, Rashad Mahbub, goodbye and goodnight.
SalmanKhan: "@Fox: What if the match is shortened!! Forgot to mention this one :) Hopefully continue this discussion in next match :)"
Shadow-Shell: "@Sanjeev Actually there were a few more. like the team with more runs at 10 over mark getting a bonus point. There was also X-Factor sub which could only be triggered at the 10 over mark of first innings, where a bowler who haven't bowled more than one over, or a batter who haven't batted can be replaced."
David Warner: "[Finally off the mark] Definitely. It was the complete package we've been searching for since last year. It was fantastic to see Gilkes and Sam Konstas build that platform at the top of the order. They followed the blueprint of how the Sixers played against us, playing conventional cricket shots and leaving the rest to the guys at the back end. [Gilkes and Konstas partnership] Yeah, they were [amazing]. The feedback was that the ball was holding a fraction for the spinners, and for the quicks, hitting that eight-meter length was key. The way our bowlers adapted quickly to those conditions was fantastic. Hopefully, that performance becomes our blueprint moving forward. We absolutely love coming here. We know how to read this surface early with both bat and ball. Having the next generation coming through at the top of the order is great for continuity, and I'm more than happy to slide down the order to support that. [Shadab Khan] When you look at his highlights, it's all about his pace and control. He has played in very similar conditions back home and has incredible knowledge of the game. He can sense exactly when to pounce. He told me his plan was to target the stumps and use his wrong-uns to put doubt in the batters' minds, forcing them to play across the line. [Any itch to get back to the top of the order?] No, not at all. My job is to give these guys continuity. Gilkes is hitting the ball so well at the state level right now, and seeing him and Sam build that foundation with hard running and smart boundaries is what cricket is all about. I want them to take that confidence into the rest of the series. [Daniel Sams bowling on Power Surge] It's always handy, but cricket is a funny game; it's all about execution. We talked about how the energy wasn't quite there last game, but tonight was different. The boys were hungry and had a completely different attitude as soon as they stepped out there."
Salman: "@Fox: nice one, haha :) "
Player of the Match, Matthew Gilkes: "The wicket was quite low and slow, which made it tough at times. I think the turning point was the way Sam [Konstas] and I ran between the wickets. That really took the pressure off and made us feel like we didn't have to overreach. It was a good win in the end. I felt like I was hitting the ball well in the first couple of games, but I got a bit carried away. Today, I was better at going through the gears and choosing better options. Sam is unreal. Everyone forgets he's only 19 or 20, but he already has incredible cricket smarts. He's actually teaching me things! He gets right into the contest, and as I mentioned, our running between the wickets was likely the difference tonight. He just has a really good cricket brain. We help each other out by discussing how we're feeling and which matchups work best for us. That communication was something we did really well today."
10:36 pm The Sydney Thunder have finally secured their maiden victory of the season! Truth be told, the Brisbane Heat never truly looked comfortable during the chase. While the Heat got the ideal start with 13 runs off Reece Topley's opening over, Nathan McAndrew immediately swung the momentum back to the Thunder with a searingly fast, pinpoint-accurate maiden over. Jack Wildermuth briefly revived the chase by smashing two boundaries in a 16-run fourth over, helping the Heat reach 33/0 at the end of the four-over powerplay. However, the game turned in the fifth over when Shadab Khan struck twice; he first dismissed Colin Munro with a sharp wrong-un, then clean-bowled Wildermuth with a brilliant googly. Matt Renshaw looked to be the Heat's last hope, picking up where he left off last match by striking the ball cleanly and taking 12 runs off Shadab's second over. While the Thunder's earlier innings were defined by elite running and constant doubles, the Heat struggled to rotate the strike effectively. The decisive blow came when Renshaw, having reached 43 off 28 balls, became Shadab's third victim of the night, clean bowled while attempting a reverse sweep against another vicious googly. The Thunder's spinners dominated the middle overs, drying up the boundaries and mounting the pressure, with Shadab Khan acting as the chief destroyer to seal the win.
Fox: "@Salman, one more thing to add, it must be a BBL match otherwise you cannot take the power surge :D"
Sanjeev: "What other strange rules is the BBL operating with which are not present in the T20Is?" The bat flip instead of the toss, for example.
Danish: "The Heat look like an average unit without Khawaja, Labuschagne, Neser, Spencer and Swepson. The 250 chase was an outlier."
