I wonder whom Mahela consulted with before giving Gomez that over, but it cost Kochi terribly. de Villiers smashed Gomez for three sixes and that ended the game for Kochi. How much of Gomez would Mahela have seen before today? He'll have learned from the experience for sure.

''Think Mahela tried to pull of a MSD by bringing on Gomez!" says Samir.

Mahela says Kochi didn't hold nerve for only a couple of overs and it cost them. "It was a defendable target. We took wickets but they kept chasing. We put ourselves under pressure. We tried to take the pace off the ball but it didn't work."

"Wouldn't blame Mahela too much. With RP delivering absolute trash (like he is doing with alarming regularity), he had to look for other alternatives," says Karthik.

Vettori thought the target was a good one. "We played well to chase it down, he says. "It was a good wicket, there was enough bounce there. A good cricket wicket, good for the crowd ... I like bowling on these sort of wickets."

The Man of the Match is AB de Villiers for his game-breaking half-century. "Awesome vibe, the IPL is always nice to play in. We started off scratchy but that was expected in the first game of the IPL," AB said. "We had the experience to pull it back." He says Ray Jennings gave him valuable advice during the second strategic time-out. So I guess they do serve some purpose!

That's about it from us at ESPNcricinfo for tonight. Day 2 of the IPL is over, plenty more to come. Stay with us. Cheers.

Vinay Kumar to Pathan, FOUR, full toss and Pathan ends it with a heave into that gap on the deep midwicket boundary, Bangalore have won, with plenty to spare

Vinay Kumar to Pathan, FOUR, another short ball and Pathan has slugged it between deep midwicket and long-on, clean contact and looks like this game won't go into the final over

Vinay Kumar to Pathan, no run, short ball and Pathan tries another pull but this time it doesn't come off, he was late on the shot and got hit on the body

Vinay Kumar to Pathan, FOUR, short ball and Pathan has pulled it with power, RP runs to his left on the boundary but doesn't dive

That over has broken the game. Bangalore will have to do something spectacularly silly to lose this.
