Honours even on opening day

Kenya 327 for 9 (Tikolo 61, Obanda 51, Maruma 3-82) v Zimbabwe XI
Scorecard

Honours were even on the opening day of the Intercontinental Cup fixture at the Kwekwe Sports Club, as Kenya reached 327 for 9 against Zimbabwe XI. Kenya held the upper hand for much of the day, but Zimbabwe hit back through offspinner Timycen Maruma, who took 3 for 82 in 24 overs to end the day on a satisfactory note.

Kenya, after being put in, were given a sound start by the Obuya brothers, David and Collins, who added 54 for the second wicket. Though both fell in fairly quick succession, Kenya held the initiative with the middle order chipping in with important contributions; Steve Tikolo and Alex Obanda struck half-centuries while captain Maurice Ouma made 38.

However, Kenya needed one of them to consolidate to get them to a substantial score, but lost their last three wickets in the day for 20 runs.
