Two heroes of the night turned villains then turned heroes again, but Lions' Quinton de Kock made the last couple of mistakes to facilitate an incredible tie in the Super Over

END OF OVER:
1 | LIONS: 13/2

0.6
W
Neesham to Pretorius, 1 run, OUT, oh Lions have lost it. They are not going for the second. What is de Kock doing? Full toss hit to deep midwicket, but de Kock returns while coming back for the second. The second wasn't on but de Kock had nothing to lose if he had kept on coming. In fact that was the only way they would have won. He stopped midway, and Pretorious is run out. Otago have won despite a second tie because they hit one more boundary than the Lions

D Pretorius run out

What can Pretorious do here? The first ball he is facing in the tiebreaker. Let me tell you, if this Super Over is tied, Otago win the match because they have hit one more boundary than Lions

1
Neesham to de Kock, 1 run, oh they didn't run the first one hard. Wide full toss, driven hard to deep point, but despite the fumble they are in no position to go for the second. This is dopey cricket

Good news for Lions is, de Kock is on strike

0.4
W
Neesham to Symes, OUT, He has recovered. Not the smartest of shots. Slogs hard when a run a ball is required. Nothing special about this delivery either. Just a wide length ball. Somehow, though, Symes mis-hits and offers mid-off an easy catch

J Symes c BB McCullum b Neesham

Three required off three. Can Nesham recover?

1
Neesham to de Kock, 1 run, nearly game over. ordinary bowling again. A length ball wide outside off, driven hard down the ground, almost beats mid-off to his left. They get just the single
0.2
6
Neesham to de Kock, SIX, I scored a hundred. I will score more if required. I will win this game. De Kock is running away with this. Neesham is ordinary again. On a length, not much sting, on the pads, he clears the front leg again and swings him hard over deep square leg
0.1
4
Neesham to de Kock, FOUR, ordinary start from Neesham. Wide length ball, de Kock opens up the front leg, and drives him over cover for four

Oh it's Neesham again. He has been doing it with the bat. They have given the ball to him too. Often when it's your evening, it is your night too. Will it be for Neesham?

De Kock and Symes come out to bat. Fourteen to get off the over. The fine leg is up, the third man is back. Two policemen walk in front of the sight screen as Neesham runs in. He will have to run in again

END OF OVER:
1 | OTAGO: 13/0

Somehow Otago have managed a fighting total despite a very good over by Tanvir. Soon it will be over to de Kock and Symes and Pretorious

Who will bowl for Otago? I see Wagner is choosing the ball. I also McMillan is warming up. It could even be Neesham

0.6
6
Sohail Tanvir to BB McCullum, SIX, McCullum improvises. He dances down the wicket to turn this yorker into a low full toss and somehow finds enough power to loft it over wide long-off for six. It was Lions' game until now. Now Otago have a fighting chance

It's been an excellent over so far

0.5
1
Sohail Tanvir to Neesham, 1 run, another superb yorker, the best Neesham can do with it is to dig it out to mid-off for one
0.4
1b
Sohail Tanvir to BB McCullum, 1 bye, goes wider of the crease and bowls another lovely yorker, which sears in and goes between his legs. They steal a bye, but this is a lovely result for Lions
0.3
0
Sohail Tanvir to BB McCullum, no run, lovely yorker just outside off. Not too wide, and reducing the room with the angle coming in. At 135ks too. McCullum gets no touch on it. Beaten on the inside edge

Round the wicket goes Tanvir

0.2
1
Sohail Tanvir to Neesham, 1 run, a length ball outside off, driven hard to mid-off for just the one. Now over to BMac
0.1
4
Sohail Tanvir to Neesham, FOUR, short, outside off, slower ball picked early, and he has crashed it over cover for four

END OF OVER:
20 | OTAGO: 167/7 (1 run required, RR: 8.35)

Oh, what a finish. In the end it all came down to one more boundary hit by Otago, a most cruel way to decide a cricket match. There was nothing separating these teams after the Super Over, but for one extra boundary. Otago's streak stays alive, Lions have a lot to ponder, and we quickly move to the next game. Thanks for joining us

Quotes from the presentation
"It was a brilliant game of cricket," says Brendon McCullum. "Could have gone either way. very fortunate to come on the right side of it. Thanks to a brilliant innings from James Neesham. I wasn't calm. Three dots in the Super Over wouldn't have gone down well. Superb bowling from Tanvir. In the end I managed to get one away. We weren't perfect. We didn't bowl as well as we should, but we will take the points."

"Everyone has their day," says Jimmy Neesham. "I guess today was my day. Did I seem calm? It might just have been on the surface. I think this is the biggest day, will stay in my memory for a while."

As we catch our collective breath, a moment to reflect on how the two big heroes just completely broke down under pressure. First came de Kock the keeper's fumble off the last ball of the regulation match. Then Neesham bowled a pretty ordinary Super Over, bowling four length ball,s three of them wides. Then came two full tosses. He was fortunate that Symes and de Kock lost their heads too. Just hang in for the presentation then

Tuhinanshu: "It was match of two young guns. Neesham and De Kock. It was sad to see De Kock in that state after playing almost the match winning innings in that team but as he said -"That is cricket. It's hard." But Otago's streak is alive. Go Volts :D"

And we had de Kock talking. He must be heart-broken. "It is difficult," he says. "I came here and tried to do my best for the team. It is tough to lose after getting the runs. I finally scored some runs in the subcontinent. I have been working on my game. It was about time it paid off."

Alviro Petersen says, "This is the worst I have seen the Lions bowl. We don't have a lot of international players, we rely on every single player to perform well, but it didn't come together well."

*** Tanvir to bowl another over. The Super Over is about to begin. I am assuming Brendon McCullum and Jimmy Neesham will bat for Otago. Lions' nominated batsmen are de Kock, Symes and Pretorious. Otago yet to come out of their dressing room. I see Neesham and BMac. Hamish Rutherford is the third man, and not Ryan ten Doeschate

What a result here. Quite incredibly, the regulation wicketkeeper, Thami Tsolikile, had asked Quinton de Kock to stand up to the stumps to prevent the bye. Sohail Tanvir, though, asked him to go back. De Kock still couldn't collect it cleanly. And it was de Kock whose century gave Lions that fighting total

1b
Sohail Tanvir to Wagner, 1 bye, Tanvir fires it in, and Wagner fails to hit the ball, but the keeper is unable to take it cleanly, so the pair run the fumble to guarantee a SuperOver. Our first of the competition. Hold on to your hats folks, we are in for yet another thriller

2 off 1. Super Over is imminent. All kinds of conferences are being made. A lot riding on this for Otago as they look for their 15th win. Keeper looking to get up to the stumps to prevent a single. This is what T20s are all about

19.5
2
Sohail Tanvir to Wagner, 2 runs, Wagner able to loft this full and wide delivery behind square on the off side, beating the fielders inside the ring, as the pair complete two
19.4
0
Sohail Tanvir to Wagner, no run, slower ball again, outside off, and Wagner fails to make a connection. Equation now 4 off 2
19.3
1
Sohail Tanvir to Neesham, 1 run, full and wide and Neesham able to get a bat on it to squirt through the off side for a single. 4 now needed off 3 balls
19.2
0
Sohail Tanvir to Neesham, no run, slower ball from Tanvir outside off and Neesham misses it. Some drama we have here!
19.1
6
Sohail Tanvir to Neesham, SIX, Neesham takes this low full toss and slams this over the long on boundary for a six, just beating the fielder who tries to catch it, but ends up hitting it over himself

Tanvir to bowl the final over. Neesham on strike
