16.3 and gone! Another half-volley on middle stump, Vandiar generated tremendous power with his carve, but could not get it past Tendulkar who pouched it without fuss. Super knock comes to an end. 145/4
3.3 a massive mix-up, and that's the first wicket, Petersen shuffled across and tucked the ball towards square leg, Vandiar set off for a single, Petersen took a few paces before deciding to turn back, he had his eye on the ball and wasn't seeing where Vandiar was, both men meet at the keeper's end, easy run-out, big confusion as to who is out, it was touch and go to decide which of the two grounded his bat at the keeper's end, many replays later Petersen is sent on his way 24/1
5.3 Murtaza strikes, Cameron's stay is over, he wants to smash a delivery into the stands beyond long-on but can only get it as far as Zaheer Khan, who pedals back from mid-on and takes it just outside the ring 38/2
10.4 seeya later! Malinga has made a crucial breakthrough, sending back van Jaarsveld here. Pitched up on off stump line, the batsman took up the challenge and looked to launch it down the ground, but ended up scooping it straight up and high.. When it came down, Ryan McLaren was under it. 81/3

16.6 Vandiar for the main course, Frylinck for dessert.. Malinga finishes a delicious over with another inch-perfect yorker and Frylinck perishes as he tries to make room to the leg side and steer it to the offside.. Good that he made room, his toes were saved. 147/5

9.5 that's the first wicket for the Lions, Dhawan goes for the reverse-sweep, connects nicely but can only find short third man 83/1
14.3 Burger!!! Big Mac!!! Quarter Pounder!! Sachin is gone! Looks to make room by moving to the leg side and go over the off side, but Burger kept it on the money. Sachin missed with the swipe and lost his stumps. He looks shocked. BIG wicket! 131/3
10.5 Goner! Rayudu is run out.The difference between these two sides is the fielding, and I suspect it might be critical! Rayudu reaches out outside off and squeezes it without much timing to point, Sachin calls him across for a tight single and he runs, but the throw from Petersen at point is deadly accurate and takes the stumps down at the bowler's end.. Rayudu's dive did not help in the end. 89/2
18.2 annnnnnnnnnnnd gone! Not a very good ball this time, Duminy had the room outside off and the length to free his arms but could not time the launch over long off very well.. Easy catch in the deep for Petersen and Duminy is gone.. More importantly, two dots.. 24 needed off 10! 163/5

16.6 Burger does it again! Sachin and Pollard bowled in one day! Sachin's adventurism may have contributed to that one, but this was down to Burger's excellence. Fires in the perfect yorker on off stump and even Pollard, even in this mood, cannot keep it out.. He initially thought of smashing it, then realised it was homing in on the money, but by the time he brought the bat down, the bails were in the air. 156/4
19.2 Satish is run out! Another god-awesome yorker, on the middle and leg, and I guess Satish got some bat on it, else he seemed as plumb as they come.. They took a single behind square leg and Satish wanted to come back for the second, and he was almost near Harbhajan at the striker's end.. Easy run out at the other end..! 173/6

Match Notes

  • Lions reclaim lost loyalties

Initially Mumbai had the crowd's support, but by the end, by the sheer weight of their performance, the Lions were on the path to winning back the hearts their home fans

  • 'We were a family out there' - Alviro Petersen

It was, unarguably, by any measure reasonable or unreasonable, the biggest win in the hitherto limping Lions franchise's history, and Alviro Petersen knew it

  • Charged-up Lions stun sloppy Mumbai

Sachin Tendulkar the batsman nearly made up for Sachin Tendulkar the captain, but a charged-up Lions side completed a feel-good underdog win in a tense finish to kick off the Champions League T20

  • David mugs Goliath

Mumbai's visiting superstars are brought crashing to earth. A home team supporter soaks it all up

  • Pressure's on Mumbai - Petersen

Alviro Petersen has said the favourites tag will weigh heavily on the star-studded Mumbai Indians when they take on his low-profile side
