14:00 local time - Hello and welcome to Cricinfo's live coverage of the Unitech cup. Today India take on Sri Lanka at the Premadasa Stadium in what is effectively the curtain-raiser of the series, after the South Africa-Sri Lanka match was postponed due to security concerns. But sadly for now at least the curtains are down with the weather playing spoil-sport. There was heavy overnight rain and the outfield is in bad shape. There are several wet patches in the outfield and the news is that the umpires will inspect the ground at 15:00 local time. Conditions have been fairly good since today morning with the sun peering out now and then but it's going to be a long wait before we can see any action. Stay connected and we will keep you posted.

Meanwhile Cricket South Africa are due to announce a final decision by 3:30 local time today on their participation in the tournament. So with the future of the series hanging in the balance it's going to be a wait-and-watch day.

15:21 local time - News just filters in that the umpires have decided to abandon the match. With the sun playing hide-and-seek the conditions have not improved to expectations. Some wet patches in the outfield and the bowlers' run-up needed further drying. All is not lost though, a reserve day is in place tomorrow and weather permitting, play will start at 14:30 local time.
