First win for Windward Islands, Barbados implode

Guyana's bowlers defended a low total by a huge margin at Queen's Park Oval and handed Barbados their first defeat of the Caribbean T20. Defending 108, Guyana dismissed Barbados for 66 in 17.2 overs.

Having been sent in to bat, Guyana had been dismissed for 108 in 19 overs. Though run-scoring had been slow, Guyana had progressed to 63 for 2 in ten overs and looked set for a more substantial total. However, they lost three wickets without a run being scored to slip to 63 for 5, and then three more wickets for the addition of four runs to slip to 89 for 8. Shivnarine Chanderpaul was the only Guyana batsman to make more than 20, while Dwayne Smith and Sulieman Benn took two wickets each for Barbados.

Barbados had a terrible start to their chase with a wicket falling in each of the first three overs. They recovered from 4 for 3 to 42 for 3 before the innings imploded, with seven wickets falling for 24 runs. Steven Jacobs, Veerasammy Permaul and Christopher Barnwell took two wickets each for Guyana. There were three run-outs in the Barbados innings as well, and only Jonathan Carter and Shane Dowrich made more than 15.

Darren Sammy produced an all-round performance to lead Windward Islands to their first win of the Caribbean T20. It's was CCC's third defeat in three games.

Having been sent in to bat, Windward Islands were struggling at 66 for 4 in the 12th over before they were lifted by 30s from Keddy Lesporis and Sammy, who had a 39-run stand for the fifth wicket, the joint-highest in the match. Windward Islands finished on 129 for 7, with Jason Holder and Raymon Reifer taking two wickets each for CCC.

CCC lost Chadwick Walton early in the chase but were steadied by a 39-run stand between Reifer and Kyle Corbin. Then they lost three wickets for two runs and continued to collapse, ending on 87 in 18.5 overs. Sammy took the final wicket to finish with 3 for 17 and win the Man-of-the-Match award.
