Australia Under-19 225 for 6 (Doran 79*, Carter 2-22) beat New Zealand Under-19 206 (McClure 61, Fotia 5-38) by 19 runs
Scorecard
Left-arm pace bowler Matthew Fotia's five-wicket haul set up Australia's close, 19-run win over New Zealand in the first match of the Under-19 tri-series in Darwin.
New Zealand, who chose to bowl first, were at a comfortable 178 for 4 in the 42nd over, in pursuit of 226, before they collapsed to 206. Fotia, who had dismissed the New Zealand openers earlier in the innings, struck to remove New Zealand's sole half-centurion, Ken McClure in the 46th over. Grabbing the chance to turn the match in their favour, the rest of the Australian attack put pressure on New Zealand, claiming the last five wickets in as many overs.
Earlier, Australia almost squandered a good start, allowing the New Zealand bowlers to take three quick wickets and leave them at 86 for 3. Jake Doran and Ben McDermott then shared a valuable 90-run stand for the fourth wicket. Once McDermott fell in the 42nd over, Doran guided the innings to 225 for 6, remaining unbeaten on 79 off 80 balls.
