Sam Hain hit a career-best unbeaten 145, then Chris Jordan and Liam Dawson combined to wreck the West Indies A reply, as England Lions romped to a second impressive victory in consecutive days at the 3aaa County Ground in Derby.

After beating India by seven wickets in the opening match of the A-team tri-series on Friday, the Lions chose to bat first on the same pitch, and Hain anchored a total of 318 for 5, in which Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Steven Mullaney also made half centuries.

Then Jordan opened with a double-wicket maiden, going on to take 3 for 25 from eight overs - perfect preparation before joining the senior England squad for Wednesday's T20 international against Australia at Edgbaston.

Dawson, who had taken 4 for 30 against India, followed up with 4 for 27, setting a new best on home soil for a spinner for the Lions or the England A or B teams who preceded them for the second day running.

Jermaine Blackwood had given the Windies a promising start with 40 from 33 balls in an opening stand of 50 until he edged Jordan's fifth ball to Ben Foakes. His opening partner Chandrapaul Hemraj made 35 until he fell lbw sweeping at Dawson, the captain Jason Mohammed hit five fours and a six in his 52, and Rovman Powell provided some late defiance by top-scoring with 55 from 50 balls - until he holed out off Reece Topley, who polished off the last three wickets.

The Lions made a bad start after Mullaney's decision to bat, with Nick Gubbins brought down to earth after Friday's century when he fell for a four-ball duck, edging a good one from Chemar Holder to Devon Thomas behind the stumps. But Hain joined Kohler-Cadmore to add 148 in 28 overs - beating the new record for the second wicket against India A which Hain had set with Gubbins 24 hours earlier.

Batting was not easy, especially against Jomel Warrican and Rahkeem Cornwall, the two spinners who had terrorised the Lions in Jamaica and Antigua in the winter. But Kohler-Cadmore and Hain both adapted to the tricky pitch and played with patience.

Hain was the first to 50 from 61 balls in the 22nd over and Kohler-Cadmore followed shortly afterwards, and the Yorkshire opener broke the shackles by taking a six off each of the spinners as he reached 67 from 87 balls before carving Warrican to backward point.

Liam Livingstone and Ben Foakes both fell cheaply to leave the Lions tottering on 161 for 4 in the 32nd over - Livingstone lofting Cornwall to deep mid wicket, and Foakes run out by a sharp piece of fielding from Mohammed. But Mullaney joined Hain to add a restorative 95 for the fifth wicket, initially playing with caution before pulling consecutive sixes as he reached 50 from 46 balls.

Meanwhile Hain made West Indies A pay heavily for dropping caught-and-bowled chances when he had scored 13 and 56, reaching three figures in the 42nd over from 114 balls with nine fours.

That was his second century in four innings for the Lions, after he made 144 on debut against West Indies in Antigua in March, and the 22-year-old surged level with that score with four consecutive boundaries in the last over before scrambling a single to beat it - as the visiting bowlers showed their inexperience in leaking 123 from the last 10 overs.

The Lions are now sitting pretty at the top of the tri-series table with four points from two matches, meaning one more win in their remaining two matches - against India A in Leicester on Tuesday, or Windies A in Northampton on Thursday - would secure their place in the final at the Kia Oval on Monday week
