Mumba wraps up big Rhinos win

Vusi Sibanda prepares to play the ball AFP

Five wickets from 18-year-old Carl Mumba, taking his match haul to eight, helped Mid West Rhinos to a three-day win over Mountaineers in Kwekwe. Set a target of 346, Mountaineers were dismissed inside 59 overs, with only Kevin Kasuza's 79 providing any real resistance.

Rhinos already led by 286 with five wickets standing and Prince Masvaure's second half-century steadily consolidated their position. Legspinner Natsai M'shangwe completed a five-wicket haul to keep a check on the scoring before Rhinos declared nine down. Although Mountaineers brought up their 100 for the loss of only one wicket, No. 3 Charles Kunje and Kasuza fell shortly after and Mumba returned to blow away the middle order and set up a 181-run victory.

Mumba and Neville Madziva has already skittled Mountaineers for 165 - one more than they managed in the second innings - first time out. Mumba's 8 for 80 were his best first-class figures, while M'shangwe also recorded a career best with 8 for 126. In an otherwise low-scoring match, Rhinos were grateful for captain Vusi Sibanda's 85 and 53 from Masvaure as they posted 314 after winning the toss and choosing to bat.
