Assam's decision to bat first nearly backfired after they struggled to push the scoring early, tied down by Jai Prakash Yadav and Sanjay Bangar. After Pervez Aziz fell with the score at 54, Arunkumar and Nishantha Bordoloi then added an unbeaten 108 for the fourth wicket as Railways struggled to get any breakthrough through the rest of the day.
