Chris Gayle hammered 61 off 38 balls and took 4 for 22 to lead Matabeleland Tuskers to a 19-run victory against Mountaineers at the Harare Sports Club. Gayle carted five sixes and three fours in his innings, before he was dismissed with the Tuskers on 98 for 2 after 13 overs. Craig Ervine then provided a strong finish, hitting 30 off 15 balls to lead Tuskers to 161 for 4. Dirk Nannes picked up 2 for 29 for Mountaineers, but Chris Harris had better figures of 2 for 21.
Mountaineers' chase got off to a promising start, and they were 103 for 3 in the 14th over, before Gayle took two wickets in two balls to derail the chase. He picked up his fourth scalp in his next over and Mountaineers eventually lost six wickets for 39 runs to finish on 142 for 9 in 20 overs. Hamilton Masakadza was their top-scorer with 45 runs off 34 balls.
The game between Mid West Rhinos and Southern Rocks was washed out after the Rhinos made 131 for 7. Riki Wessels made 34 while Graeme Cremer contributed 21. Wessels helped steady the innings after Brian Vitori dismissed Brendan Taylor in the fourth over. Malcolm Waller and Roland Benade got starts but could not carry on for long. Shane Burger and Hilary Matanga chipped in with two wickets each.
