Matt Renshaw, Australia's opening batsman, left the field for assessment after complaining of a headache following a blow to the helmet while fielding at short leg on the third day against Pakistan at the SCG.
It was the second time in the match that Renshaw had been hit on the helmet. On day one, Renshaw was unable to evade a bouncer from Mohammad Amir and was struck on the grille of his helmet. On that occasion, he was assessed on the field by Australia's team doctor, Peter Brukner, and having been cleared to bat on he raised his maiden Test century.
On day three, in the 77th over of Pakistan's innings, Renshaw was fielding at short leg when Sarfraz Ahmed swung hard at a delivery from Steve O'Keefe and Renshaw was hit on the helmet again. He stayed on the field for a further two overs before he headed for the rooms, to be replaced by local substitute fielder Nic Bills.
"Matthew complained of a headache," Brukner said. "He came off the ground to rest and is having an ongoing assessment of his condition."
Renshaw was the second Australian to leave the field during day three at the SCG. Two overs into the day, Matthew Wade gave up wicketkeeping duties to Peter Handscomb and returned to the team hotel due to illness.
