Yuzvendra Chahal claimed career-best figures of 6 for 25 to help India thrash England by 75 runs in the third and final Twenty20 International played in Bangalore on Wednesday.
Having lost the third-straight toss of the series, India required their faltering top order to find form on a surface that aided the bat. Barring Virat Kohli, who was run out in the second over, the rest of India's came good. Suresh Raina led the way by clobbering a 45-ball 63 and joining forces with MS Dhoni, who himself scored his first T20I half century, to add a 55-run stand for the third wicket.
The hosts raced to 100 in just 12.1 overs and Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh looked to add to England's woes after Raina departed in the 14th over. Dhoni pushed the tempo in the 15th, 16th and 17th over by slamming four fours and taking his side to 153 for 3 at that stage.
Yuvraj Singh though found another gear and thumped Chris Jordan for three sixes and a four in the 18th over that yielded 24 runs. The late onslaught pushed the hosts to 206 in their innings.
Opener, Jason Roy, set the tempo for England's innings by clubbing Chahal for a six from a switch hit in his first over. The leg spinner responded didn't lose his composure and dismissed Sam Billings in the same over.
Roy and Joe Root dropped anchor and scored at more that nine an over to keep England in the contest. The duo added 47 runs for the second wicket before Roy departed for a 23-ball 32. Eoin Morgan joined Root and drove England to 119 for in 13.3 overs. It was then that Chahal dismissed Morgan and Root from successive deliveries. First dismissing Morgan by forcing him to sweep his googly against the turn and then trapping Root lbw.
England's strong middle order needed to drive the chase, but they failed, as Chahal foxed the remaining batsmen. Moeen Ali was his next victim and was deceived by another googly and the dangerous Ben Stokes holed out shortly after. Jordan was Chahal's last victim. India had claimed eight wickets for eight runs in 19 balls to complete a sweep of all three formats - following their 4-0 Test series win, 2-1 win in the ODIs and 2-1 T20I win.
"It felt good because I'm playing an India match in Bangalore for the first time," Chahal said. "It always feels like home. I've bowled in the Powerplay before in the IPL, and Virat has confidence in me that I can do that. In the start, I plan that batsmen will want to go for their shots because it's a small ground, so I have a chance for wickets. I bowl a fuller length, so I have a chance for lbws if they miss the sweep and reverse-sweep. Never dreamed I'd get six wickets."
