Stat of the day
When West Indies had their first runs of the day - an edged four by Marlon Samuels - the overnight batsmen, Samuels and Darren Bravo, had completed a 200-run stand. Telling, that this was the 21st 200-run stand against Bangladesh and the fifth in the last three years; it accentuates the inexperience in Bangladesh's bowling. The pair extended the partnership to a triple-century, and that was the sixth 300-plus stand against Bangladesh.
Drop of the day
Rubel Hossain and Abul Hasan began well for Bangladesh, forcing Samuels and Bravo to play and edge a few. In the fourth over, Abul got Samuels to play at another good delivery, the edge flying to first slip where Naeem Islam's outstretched left hand grazed the ball before it flew past and reached the boundary. The batsman was on 117, and Mushfiqur Rahim's wish for an early breakthrough was not to be.
Fortune of the day
Samuels got even luckier an hour later, when on 167. After hitting two consecutive boundaries off Shakib Al Hasan, he got into a tangle trying to pull the third ball. The ball hit the pads as he shaped to play the shot, and trickled on to the base of the stumps. The bails however didn't dislodge, increasing Bangladesh's frustrations.
Slip of the day
Following a 300-plus partnership, Shivnarine Chanderpaul is not who you want to bowl to. The nervousness showed for Naeem, when the ball slipped out of his hand, bounced twice and hit Shahriar Nafees, at silly point, on his heels. The umpire first called it a wide, then switched it to a no-ball.
Century of the day
Abul Hasan made a much-applauded 113 for Bangladesh in the first innings, a debut century at No. 10 for the first time in 110 years. But his primary role in the team is that of a pace bowler, and he hasn't started his career in this department as brightly. Abul, ironically, had conceded 113 runs at the end of the third day's play, becoming the only cricketer to have scored and conceded more than 100 runs on Test debut.
