India v Sri Lanka, World Cup 2011, final, Mumbai

  • India's run-chase of 275 was the highest ever achieved in a World Cup final. Only three sides in ten finals have won batting second.

  • Mahela Jayawardene became the sixth batsman, after Clive Lloyd, Viv Richards, Aravinda de Silva, Ricky Ponting and Adam Gilchrist, to score a century in a World Cup final. He was also the first to finish on the losing side.

  • India became only the third team, after West Indies (1975 and 1979) and Australia (1987, 1999, 2003 and 2007) to win the World Cup on two or more occasions. Their first victory was in 1983.

  • Jayawardene's hundred was his 14th in ODI cricket, and his first in a losing cause.
