Shane Harwood played a crucial role in enabling Victoria to qualify for the next round of the Champions League Twenty20. He took 3 for 14 in four overs to help limit Wayamba to 119, which helped bring down the target required for Victoria to progress to the next round to 84. Harood reserved his brilliance for the middle and lower orders in the death overs where he used his variations in pace and ability to cut the ball both ways to bowl three batsmen. Jehan Mubarak fell to one that kept low as he went for the pull, Kaushal Lokuarachchi was deceived by a beautiful legcutter and Farveez Maharoof was done in by a slower delivery.
However, Harwood's effort was not well backed up by his batsmen. 119 was a chaseable score but the Victoria batsmen found it difficult to get going. As the innings approached the death overs, it seemed as if the batsmen wanted to see off the qualification target of 84 before going for the win. The final rush for victory, though, came too late.
