David Wiese's spectacular all-round performance, a quick-fire 138 followed by three wickets with his medium-pace, helped South Africa Academy claim a 27-run victory over the Bangladesh Cricket Board Academy at the LC de Villiers Oval in Pretoria. The win gave South Africa an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match one-day series.
After choosing to bat, South Africa plummeted to 22 for 5 with Delwar Hossain accounting for the openers. Wise revived the innings by stitching together a 112-run sixth-wicket stand with Roelof van der Merwe, who made 61. He was the joined by wicketkeeper Bradley Barnes (52) and they added 134 runs for the seventh wicket off only 116 balls. By the time Wiese departed in the 49th over, he had hit 11 fours and four sixes.
Bangladesh began their chase in earnest, with the opening pair of Imrul Kayes and Jahurul Islam putting on 50 by the seventh over. But Wiese took three wickets in succession, including that of Kayes for 36, to leave Bangladesh tottering at 94 for 4. Bangladesh slipped further to 132 for 7 before a rearguard act was led by top scorer Nasir Hossain, who made 73 at No. 8. Hossain was involved in a 116-run stand for the eighth wicket with Suhrawadi Shuvo (45). He was the last man out as Bangladesh fell short, despite the fact that South Africa conceded 31 extras.
