England and Kiwis crush South Africa

Suzie Bates hit 62 off 37 balls as New Zealand eased to a 97-run win against South Africa in their Twenty20 meeting at Taunton. The match was brought forward so that England could play a second match during the afternoon, but the change made no difference to Bates who struck 11 fours. Haidee Tiffen (30) and Aimee Mason (35) contributed useful, rapid innings as New Zealand reached a powerful 186 for 7. South Africa crashed to 17 for 4 with Helen Watson taking early wickets and the Kiwis were also sharp in the field with three run-outs. The innings ended with 2.4 overs unused and it didn't get any better against England.

Charlotte Edwards smashed 64 off 36 balls to set up England's emphatic 86-run victory against South Africa in the second match of the day at at Taunton. Edwards' innings included ten fours and two sixes and Beth Morgan struck 40 off 22 balls towards the end to take England to 180 for 5 off their 20 overs. South Africa were routed for 94 in reply, with Jenny Gunn taking 4 for 9 off two overs. Their chase got derailed when they lost three wickets for no runs to slip from 78 for 4 to 78 for 7. Johmari Logtenberg top scored for South Africa with 29.
