In Paarl, Boland made quick work of chasing down a target of 142 set by Border to win by five wickets with nearly 16 overs to spare and stay unbeaten in the SAA Provincial Cup. A fine knock of 71 from Gerhard Strydom and an unbeaten 32 from Warren Swan saw Boland pass the target in the 29th over. Border earlier had been sent in by Boland but couldn't come to terms with the bowling of Willem du Toit, and debutant Godfrey Stevens, both of whom picked up three wickets. Carl Bradfield top-scored for Border with 33 as wickets fell around him.
A four-wicket win by Western Province over Eastern Province was not enough for Western Province to jump ahead of their opposition in the table, who hang onto the second spot in Pool B. Eastern Province, after winning the toss, squandered a good opening partnership between Chad Baxter (41) and Colin Ingram (39) to be restricted to 228 for 9 in their 45 overs. Mark de Stadler, the medium pacer, was the pick of the bowlers and picked up 4 for 42 in his nine overs. An opening partnership of 84 between Alistair Gray (46) and Derrin Bassage (65) in 10 overs was enough to see Western Province home with nine balls to spare.
The rain in Kimberley saw the match between Griqualand West and North West called off before a ball could be bowled.
