At Bloemfontein, Free State eased to a nine-wicket win over Griqualand West despite collapsing from an overnight 114 for 2 to be bowled out for 198. After a wet outfield had delayed the start, Lefa Mosena showed a lot of character in a 220-minute stay at the crease to score 66, after the third wicket had fallen on 146. The heavy atmosphere helped the pace bowlers all morning but it was the legspin of Nathan Arthur, taking a career-best 6 for 27, that caused all the damage. The Griqualand West recovery was short-lived as Jacob Malao got into the act, also taking a career-best 5 for 27 with his left arm offspin. A 31 from Clive Bennett was all Griquas could muster as they were bowled out for 93 in 25.3 overs. The target of 91 was knocked off by Free State in 23 overs for the loss of one wicket, with Riel de Kock scoring 34, and Mosena 46, both not out.
At Newlands, KwaZulu-Natal took a lead of 61 into the second innings thanks to a 41-run partnership for the final wicket between Saidi Mhlongo (21) and Ugasen Govender (21), who both registered individual highest scores in a total of 175. Wickets had been shared between the Western Province bowlers with William Hantam coming out on top with 4 for 57. It was then the same two Natal players, Govender and Mhlongo, who put Province under pressure, bowling them out for 158. Govender ended with 4 for 50 while Mhlongo took a career-best 5 for 25. Alistair Gray with 41 and Ryan Canning with 32 were the only two Province batsmen to show any real resistance. Duncan Miller with a career-best 64 not out and Rivash Gobind with 31 not out made short of the 98 required, racing to 100 for 0 in 17.3 overs.
