Whopping victories and collective half-centuries

Day 4

  • Pakistan's victory by 341 runs is their biggest win in terms of runs, bettering the previous best of 301 against Sri Lanka in Colombo (PSS) in 1994. India managed to escape its worst defeat in terms of runs by a solitary run - Australia had thrashed them by 342 runs at Nagpur in 2004-05.

  • When Abdul Razzaq reached his half-century, it was the first instance of the top-seven batsmen all getting 50-plus scores in a Test innings. There have been three instances where the top-six batsmen have achieved the same, as the table below indicates.

    Day 3

  • After their third-wicket stand of 158, Younis Khan and Mohammad Yousuf have put together exactly 2000 runs against all teams in Tests. More than half those runs have come against India. Among all pairs, only Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes have aggregated more against India. But while the West Indians needed 30 innings to score 1325, Younis and Yousuf have added 1156 in a mere 6 innings.

  • Mohammad Yousuf, who went past the 5000-run mark on the second day, is now the fourth-highest run-getter for Pakistan in Tests after overtaking Zaheer Abbas's aggregate of 5062 runs. The top three are Javed Miandad (8832), Inzamam-ul-Haq (8171*), Saleem Malik (5768).
    Day 2

  • When Younis Khan reached 16, he became the second fastest to aggregate 1000 runs against India in Tests, reaching the milestone in 11 innings. Everton Weekes remains on top of the list, taking just nine innings to set the record.

  • The opening partnership of 104 between Salman Butt and Imran Farhat is the third-highest for the second innings at Karachi. The top spot is the 121 between Mohammad Ilyas and Naushad Ali against New Zealand in 1964-65 while the stand of 117 between Sanath Jayasuriya and Marvan Atapattu in 2004comes second.
    Day 1

  • When Shoaib Akhtar lofted Anil Kumble over midwicket, it was the 41st six in the series, a world record for a three-test encounter, beating the previous record of 40 between England and New Zealand in 2001-02. The world record for most sixes in a series is 51, during the five-Test Ashes series in 2005.

  • The sensational hat-trick by Irfan Pathan is only the second by an Indian in Tests after Harbhajan Singh's feat against Australia at Kolkata. This is also the first instance of a bowler claiming a hat-trick in the first over of an innings. Wasim Akram's hat-trick against Sri Lanka at Dhaka, 1998-99 was spread over two overs. He bagged the first two wickets in the first over and took the third in the first ball of the next.
Nuwan Zoysa of Sri Lanka took a hat-trick in the second over of an innings, against Zimbabwe at Harare. In ODIs, Chaminda Vaas is the only bowler to achieve this feat in the first over of a match, against Bangladesh at Pietermaritzburg.

  • It's not often that a side loses three or more wickets without a single run on the board, as was the case with Pakistan today. The table below lists the worst starts to an innings:
