Samoa College wins 'Shell Shield' English cricket schoolboys competition

Samoa College are the Schoolboy Champions of the Inaugural Shell Shield English cricket competition.
In a closely fought final, Samoa College defeated Maluafou College by 6 wickets. Samoa College won the toss and elected to field first sending Maluafou in to bat. Maluafou College managed 47 runs off 9 overs all out.

Batting Highlights for Malufou, Faafetai top scorer with 13 runs followed by Aiomalaga with 10 runs. Bowling Highlights for Samoa College Karanita 4 overs, 4 wickets for 24 runs and Saniko 3 overs, 4 wickets for 17 runs.

Samoa College gave chase and got the runs with the loss of 4 wickets off 9.2 overs. Batting Highlights for Samoa College Niuelua 23 runs not out and Gus Autagavaia 15 runs not out.

Bowling for Maluafou College - Aiomalaga 5 overs, 2 wickets for 28 runs and Api 4.2 overs, 2 wickets for 22 runs.

Shell Man of the Match Award - Aiomalaga of Maluafou College.

The Play-off for 3rd and 4th was between Leifiifi College and Robert Louis Stevenson School who won the toss and decided to bat first. They made 70 runs off 13.1 overs all out.

Batting Highlight - Mario Posala of RLSS - 39 runs. Bowling Highlights were from Sialoga 5 overs, 3 wickets for 31 runs and Amerika 5 overs, 3 wickets for 18 runs.

Leifiifi gave chase and got the runs for the loss of 5 wickets.

Batting Highlights - Filipo 16 Not Out. Bowling Highlights - Paul Day 1 over, 2 wickets for 15 runs.

Shell Man of the Match Award - Mario Posala of Robert Louis Stevenson School

On Wednesday 13th November Robert Louis Stevenson School faced off against Faleata to decide 4th placing. RLSS won the toss and decided to bat first and made 94 runs all out off 16 overs.

Batting Highlights - Mario 23 runs, Paul 15 runs and Orion 14 runs. Bowling Highlights for Faleata - Muaau 5 overs, 4 wickets for 30 runs.

Faleata gave chase and managed only 73 runs all out off 10.4 overs.

Batting Highlights - Falaniko 16 not out, Tavae 15 and Stan 14. Bowling Highlights for RLSS - Paul 2.4 overs, 3 wickets for 13 runs and JP Stunzner 3 overs 3 wickets for 17 runs.

In a short ceremony after the games, SECA President Mr Seb Kholhase thanked the schools for their participation, the Principals, staff and volunteers who helped to make the competition successful. Special thanks went out to Mr Klaus Stunzner and Shell Oil for their sponsorship of the competition.

Top Batsman (most runs scored) - Gus Autagavaia (Samoa College)
Top Bowler (most wickets taken) - Siologa (Leifiifi College)
Best All-Rounder - Pritchard (Faleata Senior Secondary School)
Each of the award winners received $100 purchase vouchers redeemable at Seb & Rene's Sportshop at Motootua.

The competition concluded with appropriate words and a closing prayer by Reverend Niutea Simanu, Principal of Maluafou College.
