Now only Allan Border (4439 in 178) and Mark Taylor (2098 in 67) have scored more runs as Australia's captain than Steve Waugh.

  • Shaun Pollock's figures (4-37) were the second best by a South African captain in ODIs.The best,however, still remains Hansie Cronje's 4 for 33 against Zimbabwe at Harare on 22-10-1995. Incidentally the previous best by a South African captain against Australia were 2 for 15 at Wellington on 15- 02-1995.

  • Pollock became fifth captain to capture four or more wickets in a match against Australia after Duncan Fletcher, Kapil Dev, Wasim Akram and Sanath Jayasuriya. Kapil and Akram have done so on two separate occasions each,while Jayasuriya enjoys the best figures as captain (5 for 28 at Galle on 22-08-1999).

  • Shane Warne became first bowler to capture 50 wickets in a career against South Africa when he dismissed Hall. India's Anil Kumble with 40 wickets in 30 matches and Pakistan's Waqar Younis with 39 wickets in 22 matches are placed second and third.

  • The seventh wicket unbroken partnership of 87 runs between Mark Boucher and Lance Klusener was South Africa's best for this wicket position against Australia in all ODIs. This obliterated the previous record stand of 73 runs between Hansie Cronje and Shaun Pollock at this same venue on 08-04-1997.

  • The partnership was also the second highest for South Africa for this wicket against all countries after the 114 runs partnership between the same pair against India at Nagpur on 19-03-2000.

  • Lance Klusener won his 17th MoM award in his 86th match.Now he is just one short of Hansie Cronje's South African record of 18 awards.
