Derbyshire have signed New Zealand allrounder Logan van Beek as overseas player for the 2019 season.

The 28-year-old, who is currently representing New Zealand A, will be available for all forms for the entire summer, subject to final approval.

Van Beek has also appeared for Netherlands in T20Is, including at the 2014 World T20 during which he claimed best figures of 3 for 9 in the win against England. He is the grandson of Sammy Guillen, who played Test cricket for both West Indies and New Zealand,

Head of Cricket at Derbyshire, Dave Houghton said: "We were looking for a specific type of cricketer and someone to enhance our bowling attack.

"Logan came highly recommended by our contacts in New Zealand, including John Wright. He gets his wickets with balls that are pitched up and that's a good length in England, especially in the early season.

"He's on the verge of New Zealand side and bursting to try and get in. That's the type of cricketer we want - guys who are here with a point to prove. We look forward to welcoming Logan to Derbyshire."

Derbyshire have also announced the release of 20-year-old batsman Callum Brodrick. Brodrick had made 10 first team appearances for the club but, though he made 52 in his maiden first-class innings, he struggled for runs.

"Callum has shown glimpses of his talent," Houghton said, "but we feel the time is right for him to pursue opportunities elsewhere."
