Fantasy Picks: Put your money on Glenn Phillips and Andre Russell

August 19: Jamaica Tallawahs v St Lucia Zouks, Tarouba

Our XI: Glenn Phillips, Andre Fletcher, Andre Russell, Mohammad Nabi, Rovman Powell, Asif Ali, Sandeep Lamichhane, Rahkeem Cornwall, Chemar Holder, Zahir Khan/Mark Deyal, Fidel Edwards

NOTE: We might not always be able to tip you off about a late injury (or other relevant) updates.

Captain: Glenn Phillips

Phillips was among the top five run-getters and strike rates (minimum 300 runs) last CPL, and is probably among the first few names on the sheet for the Tallawahs. As an opener, he's a safe bet as someone who bats more balls than the big-hitters around him in that line-up.

Vice-captain: Andre Russell

Can easily be switched to a captaincy role if your strategy is high-risk-high-reward. The only concern with Russell being a captaincy pick is how much batting he will get - but the runs will come in any case and his bowling will fetch you points too.

Hot picks

Rahkeem Cornwall: St Lucia Zouks successfully made a T20 opener out of Cornwall last season, and he had a strike rate of close to 200 - more than anyone who got over 100 runs in the tournament. He's likely to keep that spot alongside McCarthy and, of course, offers points with the ball too.

Zahir Khan: Against a powerful batting line-up, one of Zouks' most attacking options is the left-arm wristspin of Khan. He is likely to be a certain pick as well, an established spinner who has the ability to turn ball away from both right- and left-handers. Mystery spinner Mark Deyal is also someone the Zouks could bring in.

Sandeep Lamichhane: Only because of his age will Lamichhane not be considered a senior bowler in the Tallawahs squad, but he is likely going to be their biggest bowling threat this tournament. They'll hope that's the case right from day one.

Value picks

Asif Ali: It'll be his first time at the CPL, but Asif Ali is among the best specialist batsmen in the Tallawahs squad. Expect him to have more responsibility than just being the finisher, given how many other finishing options they have.

Chemar Holder: He has long been highly-rated in the Caribbean and is fresh off an England tour with the Test team; this might finally be the season that Holder nails down a permanent spot in the XI.

Points to note

  • Carlos Brathwaite and Jermaine Blackwood will be lock-ins for Tallawahs and are decent options to consider if you can balance your team out elsewhere

  • This one will be the second match of the day, and could be played on the same pitch as the first which could bring the spinners into play.
