NOTE: We might not always be able to tip you off about late injury (or other relevant) updates, so please wait for the toss before finalizing your XI.

Captain: Mujeeb Ur Rahman

The Afghanistan spinner continues to thrive this CPL and is currently the second-highest wicket-taker, with 13 strikes in eight matches at an average of 10.69 and economy rate of 4.63. The 19-year-old did go wicketless in his last two outings against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and Trinbago Knight Riders, but back him to strike back against Barbados Tridents.

Vice-captain: Sandeep Lamichhane

In seven innings, Lamichhane has ten wickets - three fewer than Mujeeb - at an economy rate of 4.85. Tridents have struggled to three successive sub-100 totals and just haven't found a way past spin on the helpful tracks at both Queen's Park Oval and the Brian Lara Cricket Academy. So, if Mujeeb doesn't get you, Lamichhane certainly will.

Hot picks

Glenn Phillips: In the past few CPL seasons, Phillips has been a model of consistency at the top even on pitches that haven't been conducive to strokeplay. He's currently the second-highest run-getter this season with 248 runs in seven innings at an average of 41.33 and strike rate of nearly 129. On sluggish pitches, he has displayed the temperament to see off the early overs and then shift through the gears, so go for Phillips once again. Plus, no batsman has hit more sixes than Phillips in CPL 2020.

Andre Russell: There's a strong case for Russell to bat up the order, but wherever he bats, Russell could fetch you a bucketful of points. He has recovered from a hamstring strain and slammed 50 off 23 balls from No. 6 against table-toppers Knight Riders earlier this week.

Value picks

Kyle Mayers: The 27-year-old left-hander scored 7,10 and 2 in his last three innings, which coincided with Tridents' decline. With Jason Holder's men now out of contention for the playoffs, Mayers could play with greater freedom and return to form with the bat. The last time Mayers came up against the Tallawahs, he cracked 85 off 59 balls in a Man-of-the-match performance.

Rashid Khan: Khan's wicket-taking form has cooled off a bit after he reached 300 T20 wickets earlier this CPL. However, his experience and variations make him a must-have in any T20 XI. Khan went wicketless in his last match against Guyana Amazon Warriors, and made a duck at No. 3, but expect him to turn things around on Saturday.

Points to note

  • Russell is just feeling his way back from a hamstring injury, and did not bowl in the last game.

  • The Shpageeza T20 league is set to begin in Afghanistan on September 6, clashing with the CPL, but the likes of Rashid and Mujeeb have been allowed by the ACB to stay back in the Caribbean. They both will head directly to the IPL from the CPL.
