Pakistan bring in a concussion sub for Haris Sohail

Haris Sohail looks to play one towards third man AFP

Pakistan have opted for an official concussion substitute for Haris Sohail, who will not take the field in the second innings of the third ODI in Karachi. Haris was struck on the side of the helmet in the 43rd over of Pakistan's innings by a Lockie Ferguson bouncer that kept low and followed him as he attempted to duck. The speed gun registered it as 150kph, and while he carried on, he is now suffering pain on the side of his neck. Sohail has been replaced by batter Kamran Ghulam, who has not played a part this series.

Sohail appeared dazed in the immediate aftermath of the blow, with the Pakistan physio coming on to conduct a lengthy inspection for possible concussion. He was eventually allowed to bat on, but lasted just two more deliveries before being run-out after misjudging a single. A direct hit by New Zealand substitute fielder Henry Nicholls sent him back to the dressing room. Sohail scored 22 runs off 25 balls as Pakistan went on to post 280, the highest total of this three-match series.

Sohail isn't the only injury enforced absence for Pakistan in the second innings on Friday. Fakhar Zaman will not take the field either owing to a hamstring issue. It inhibited him immediately after reaching his eighth ODI hundred, and he went on to add just one run to his tally. Tayyab Tahir, who was called up to the Pakistan squad for the first time this ODI series after an impressive showing in the recently concluded domestic one-day competition, the Pakistan Cup, has come on as a substitute fielder.
