20 Wickets that fell on the opening day of the Boxing Day Test at the MCG. The previous time 20 or more wickets fell on the first day of a men's Test in Australia was in the 1951 Adelaide Test against West Indies.

It was also the first time since the 1932 Test between Australia and South Africa that 20 wickets fell on a single day at the MCG. In matches between Australia and England, it had not happened since the Manchester Test in 1909.
