Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt might be an MVP candidate and a star in the community -- but man is he behind the times, Web-wise.
It all started when someone tried to pay Watt a simple compliment:
JJ Watt is bae😍😍😍
— SamanthaMarie (@samyarnell) January 7, 2015
Then the Texans' Twitter account chimed in:
Totes. RT @samyarnell: JJ Watt is bae😍😍😍
— Houston Texans (@HoustonTexans) January 7, 2015
But Watt would have none of it:
What in the world is bae? And 'totes'? Cmon guys. -> "@HoustonTexans: Totes. RT @samyarnell: JJ Watt is bae😍😍😍"
— JJ Watt (@JJWatt) January 7, 2015
"Totes" we get, since that "totally" shorthand has been floating around for more than a decade.
But what is "bae"??? Why, it's only one of the most popular terms of 2014, a sometimes-noun, sometimes-adjective term of endearment (think "baby") seen everywhere from a Pharrell Williams song title to the list of Oxford Dictionary words of the year and, ya know, all over Twitter.
Better step up that social media game, J.J. Otherwise, what are you going to do when someone asks to slide into your DMs?
