Sebastian Vettel points to Ferrari contract amid Mercedes rumours

Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel has distanced himself from suggestions he is in line to replace Nico Rosberg at Mercedes next year.

Vettel's contract with Ferrari runs through to the end of 2017, but after a disappointing season with the Italian team he has been put forward as a potential candidate for a switch to the reigning champions. Mercedes is planning to asses all options before deciding on Rosberg's replacement, but Vettel says it should be clear that he is committed to Ferrari.

"I think it's not a big secret that both myself and Kimi [Raikkonen, Vettel's teammate] have a contract for next year," he was quoted by Reuters at a Ferrari event on Sunday. "So it should be clear."

Vettel added that he is confident Ferrari will be in better shape next year.

"I don't know what their [Mercedes'] plan is. But for us we look after ourselves for next year, there's lots of things changing so we're quite busy ourselves. We're very positive for next year."
