Hamilton could surpass Schumacher record at Ferrari's 1000th race

Lewis Hamilton could match Michael Schumacher's record of 91 Formula One victories at the Italian Grand Prix and surpass it at Ferrari's 1,000th race, set to be held at a circuit owned by the Italian team.

Hamilton has won three races in a row -- the Styrian Grand Prix, the Hungarian Grand Prix and the British Grand Prix. His win at Silverstone was the 87th of his career.

Hamilton is second on the all-time winners list behind Schumacher, who claimed the majority of his wins and five of his seven championships for Ferrari between 1996 and 2006. H

As it stands, F1's season continues with:

  • 70th Anniversary Grand Prix, Silverstone, Aug.10

  • Spanish Grand Prix, Barcelona, Aug. 17

  • Belgian Grand Prix, Spa-Francorchamps, Aug. 30

  • Italian Grand Prix, Monza, Sept. 6

  • Grand Prix of Tuscany, Mugello, Sept. 13

Were Hamilton win all those races, he would match Schumacher at Monza and then claim a record-breaking 92nd at the Mugello circuit.

Such a streak would require Hamilton to enter uncharted territory, as it would require eight wins in a row. Hamilton has never won more than five races in a row.

Sebastian Vettel won a record nine straight during his dominant 2013 campaign for Red Bull.
