Australia win tight contest against India to take unassailable 3-0 series lead

Jugraj Singh gave India the lead against Australia in Game 3 of their five-match test series. Hockey India

The Indian men's hockey team continued their losing run against Australia with a 1-2 loss. However, it was a much more competitive affair than the previous two games (1-5 and 2-4), with India taking the lead through Jugraj Singh, before a brace from Jeremy Hayward turned things around for Australia, who took an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match test series.

Despite Australia continuing with their brand of ultra-attacking hockey, Craig Fulton's India showed a defensive improvement that kept the hosts at bay for the first two quarters - with PR Sreejesh in stellar form. The third quarter saw India take the lead via a penalty corner, with a superb drag-flick from Jugraj giving Fulton's men the lead in the 41st minute. The lead didn't last long, as three minutes later, Amit Rohidas conceded a penalty stroke, which Hayward duly converted.

Four minutes into the final quarter, Australia had the lead through Hayward once more, who arrowed a PC past Sreejesh. Australia kept up the pace, and India were left with little to no chance of an equaliser as the game would down.
