Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan unlikely to join Chelsea

BORDEAUX -- Belgium midfielder Radja Nainggolan looks likely to reject a big-money move to Chelsea and stay at Roma after admitting he is happy to to stay in Italy.

Speaking at Belgium's Euro 2016 training camp in Bordeaux, Nainggolan admitted to reporters that his agent and club had been in talks with Chelsea, but said he has promised Roma president James Pallotta he will stay on at the Stadio Olimpico.

"I said to him I love where I am playing so why not stay?" the 28-year-old said.

Incoming Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is known to be an admirer, and previously tried to sign Nainggolan when he was manager of Juventus.

Nainggolan said: "Chelsea were talking but at the moment there is nothing. The Premier League is a big competition, it's lovely, but I think sometimes in life you need to make choices, and all I can say is that I am happy where I am."

Earlier this month, in rejecting talk of a £23-million move, Pallotta told reporters: "I keep on telling you that Nainggolan is going nowhere."

Nainggolan scored Belgium's winner against Sweden in a 1-0 win on Wednesday to set up a round of 16 match against Hungary in Toulouse on Sunday.
