Jonathan De Guzman to wear the No.1 shirt at Chievo

Just when you think modern football may have gone to far down the road to ruin, along comes a single photograph to prove that the game still has many, many miles left to run.

Chievo, in their infinite wisdom, have decided to hand their No.1 jersey to new signing Jonathan de Guzman.

As you might be aware, De Guzman is in fact not a goalkeeper by trade, but rather a central midfielder.

What next? At least, when Argentina did the same with Norberto Alonso at the 1978 World Cup, they could blame their odd jerseys on their alphabetical squad numbering system.

This? This is just unfettered madness. Is nothing sacred anymore?
