Cagliari 0-2 Chievo Verona
Chievo climbed out of the drop zone at the expense of Cagliari as they cruised to a 2-0 win at the Stadio Sant'Elia. Two goals in the first 10 minutes from Riccardo Meggiorini and Alberto Paloschi were enough to settle the contest and leave Cagliari still searching for their first win at home this season. The Sardinian outfit have collected eight of their 11 points on the road this season and this result completed a bad few weeks for Cagliari's home fans after they were thumped 4-0 by Fiorentina last time out.Zdenek Zeman's side have not kept a clean sheet since October, but it is a different story for Chievo who are now two points and two places clear of their hosts after extending their unbeaten run to five matches.Six-pointers can often be turgid affairs with little goalmouth action at first, but Chievo exploded into life to take an early stranglehold on proceedings in Sardinia.Meggiorini opened the scoring with a delightful overhead kick after Cagliari failed to adequately clear a free kick in the fourth minute. In truth, the former Torino forward was probably given too much space, but he did brilliantly to finish acrobatically past Cagliari keeper Alessio Cragno after Paloschi knocked it back into the box. Before the hosts had time to compose themselves Cragno was picking it out of his net again five minutes later. This time Paloschi finished off a fine move by stroking it past Cragno into the bottom right corner from eight yards after picking up Ervin Zukanovic's cut-back.Although Cagliari grew into the contest they were lucky to go in just two behind at half time after Paloschi squandered Valter Birsa's floated cross by heading over from close range.By contrast the second half was much more stale, with Chievo content to play more conservatively and hold on to what they had.Cagliari struggled to break them down, with Victor Ibarbo rashly firing over the bar from close range after weaving his way through shortly after the interval.Luca Rossettini went close with a headed effort as time began to ran out for the hosts, while Ibarbo forced Chievo keeper Albano Bizzarri into a good save 12 minutes from time, but the visitors comfortably held firm to jump out of the bottom three.ends
