- Manolo Gabbiadini - 35'
Sampdoria 1-0 Atalanta
Sampdoria extended their unbeaten start to the season with a 1-0 win over Atalanta at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris - a result which lifts them to third in Serie A.Manolo Gabbiadini was their match-winner for the second week running, scoring the only goal of the game 10 minutes before half-time to earn Sinisa Mihajlovic's men their fourth win of the season. Not even six minutes of stoppage time were enough for Atlanta to find an equaliser as they lost for the fourth time this season to remain on the brink of the bottom three.Boosted by their win in the Genovese derby last weekend which catapulted the Blucerchiati into the top four, they were keen to win again at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris to keep up the upward momentum.Like against Genoa, though, Samp struggled to find any gaps to feed one of their three forwards with Atalanta doing a good job at the back.Stefano Colantuono's side also looked quite dangerous going forwards with Luca Cigarini sending a shot wide.It was from one of Atalanta's rare attacks that Samp's goal was born with Obiang sending a perfect ball almost 50 yards down the field for Gabbiadini, who did the rest with only Marco Sportiello to beat, adding to his derby winner. The goal was a shot in the arm for Samp, who nearly added a second when Eder sent his shot just wide before the break.Claiming a second would have been a good idea for the hosts, who instead had to face Atalanta's fury for the second 45 minutes. The balance of the game altered with Samp restricting themselves to defending their advantage, succeeding in keeping Atalanta's chances down to a minimum.German Denis missed one of the best chances with 20 minutes remaining when he could not make contact with Maximilian Moralez's cross. There was some late drama when the referee awarded six minutes of stoppage time, although it was Stefano Okaka who went close to doubling Samp's advantage.Denis then sent a header wide before the home fans' nerves were settled by the long-awaited final whistle.ends
