Toulouse secure Ligue 1 safety with dramatic win at Angers
Toulouse secured their Ligue 1 status for another year in dramatic fashion as they came from behind twice to beat Angers 3-2.With Ligue 2 football beckoning, Martin Braithwaite and Yann Bodiger scored a goal each in the final 12 minutes to hand La Tefece a memorable win, sending Reims down in their place.Billy Ketkeophomphone had given the hosts an early lead before Wissam Ben Yedder levelled after the break, with Said Benrahma restoring Angers' lead. The visitors got off to the worst possible start when former Arsenal man Giles Sunu's delivery was missed by Steeve Yago and Ketkeophomphone was on hand to hand Angers the advantage.Toulouse had the perfect opportunity for a response after 30 minutes when N'Doye handled in the area but Braithwaite opted for a Panenka spot-kick and inexplicably sent the ball over the crossbar. However, despite trailing at the break, La Tefece clawed themselves back into the game just before the hour mark to drastically improve their hopes of Ligue 1 survival.Oscar Trejo's hard work created the opportunity and, when his pass released Ben Yedder into the area, there was only ever going to be one outcome as Toulouse's talismanic forward beat Alexandre Letellier.Their celebrations were cut short, though, as Angers restored their lead soon after when substitute Benrahma sent a stunning long-range effort beyond Albin Lafont, just seconds after coming off the bench.Toulouse refused to lay down, though, as Romain Saiss saw a defensive header shave his own crossbar from Braithwaite's delivery with Letellier well beaten in the Angers goal. Then, in a stunning end to the game, La Tefece scored twice to secure their Ligue 1 status for another season.Firstly, skipper Braithwaite flicked Pavel Ninkov's searching delivery beyond Letellier with the aid of the post to level for the visitors. Then, just moments after the restart, Bodiger sent a sublime 20-yard free-kick into the top corner, prompting wild celebrations in the visiting camp as Toulouse ensured safety for another season.
