Lazio resisted a late Hellas Verona fightback to win 5-2 and climb to seventh in the Serie A table.

Goals either side of half-time from Alessandro Matri and Stefano Mauri gave the Biancocelesti the upper hand at the Stadio Olimpico and Felipe Anderson made it 3-0 in the 69th minute.

But basement boys Hellas threatened to force a draw by slashing the deficit through Leandro Greco and then Luca Toni, with a timely goal from Keita Balde Diao managing to settle the hosts' nerves.

The three points were secured when Antonio Candreva converted a penalty on the stroke of full-time.
