Valter Birsa's second half strike saw Chievo beat 10-man Atalanta 1-0 at the Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi.Alejandro Gomez almost fired Atalanta ahead before half-time but his effort skimmed the crossbar.Chievo hit back when play resumed with Riccardo Meggiorini just missing from outside the box.The 66th minute dismissal of Nicolo Cherubin meant Chievo had a chance to score a penalty but Marco Sportiello saved Alberto Paloschi's attempt.Birsa made amends by hitting Chievo's winner in the 76th minute, the Slovenian leaving Sportiello standing with a long-range shot.To compound Atalanta's disappointment, Jasmin Kurtic was sent off for dissent in stoppage time.ends
